Job description

Job Title: Warehouse and Yard Forklift Operator

Job Description

This temporary role combines warehouse and yard operations, including sit-down forklift driving, order picking with RF scanners, and general material handling. You will work both indoors and outdoors, often in varying weather conditions, while supporting shipping, receiving, and inventory activities. The position runs at least until October to cover a leave, with the possibility of extension based on product demand.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a sit-down forklift safely and efficiently in both the warehouse and yard.
  • Use a warehouse management system and RF scanner to accurately pick and process customer orders.
  • Unload trailers using a sit-down forklift and move product to designated storage locations.
  • Work in the yard moving product as needed, including days that may be 100% outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Support shipping and receiving activities by preparing, loading, and unloading orders.
  • Maintain accurate inventory handling by following established processes in the warehouse management system.
  • Clean and organize the warehouse and yard as required to maintain a safe, tidy work area.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members to coordinate daily tasks and priorities.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and adherence to equipment operating guidelines.
  • Be flexible with working hours, including potential earlier start times and daily overtime during busy seasons.
  • Demonstrate reliability by maintaining consistent attendance and dependable transportation to and from work.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating a sit-down forklift.
  • At least 1 year of experience using a warehouse management system.
  • At least 1 year of experience using RF scanners for order picking or inventory tasks.
  • Previous warehouse experience in order picking, general labor, and material handling.
  • Comfort using computers and learning new warehouse software systems.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions, including rain and extreme temperatures.
  • Ability to work overtime as required, including starting as early as 6:00 a.m. during busy seasons.
  • Reliable transportation to consistently arrive on time for scheduled shifts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in outdoor yard environments.
  • Valid forklift certificate or license.
  • Prior experience in shipping, receiving, or logistics operations.
  • Willingness to learn and be trained further on forklift operation and warehouse processes.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workloads and priorities in a busy warehouse environment.

Work Environment

Plans are in place to enhance break areas with amenities such as ping-pong tables and televisions. The current team consists of one manager, two supervisors, and nine other employees. The standard schedule is Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with hours subject to change based on demand and the possibility of starting as early as 6:00 a.m. during busy seasons. Employees are currently working approximately two hours of overtime per day, and the ability to work overtime is essential. Dress code consists of normal work clothes and steel-toe footwear, with the expectation that you dress appropriately for the weather when working in the yard. All required PPE is provided, and a boot allowance is offered to support proper safety footwear.
