POSITION SUMMARY:

The Operating Room (OR) Manager is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and operation of the Operating Room (OR) department. This role involves leadership of clinical and non-clinical staff, ensuring the implementation of best practices in perioperative care, optimizing patient outcomes, and maintaining a safe and efficient environment for both patients and staff. This is a non-union position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Operational Management:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the OR, ensuring smooth workflows and efficient use of resources.
  • Ensure that surgical procedures are scheduled and executed efficiently, minimizing delays and optimizing OR utilization.
  • Ensure the department is adequately staffed with the right mix of skilled nurses, surgical technicians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Manage patient flow, ensuring timely and appropriate preparation, procedures, and postoperative care.
  • Ensure that the OR meets regulatory requirements and maintains accreditation.
Leadership and Staff Management:
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor OR nurses, surgical staff, anesthesiology teams, and support staff.
  • Provide ongoing training and development opportunities for OR staff.
  • Ensure staff performance evaluations are completed regularly and address any performance issues.
  • Promote a collaborative and supportive work environment to enhance team dynamics and job satisfaction.
Patient Care Management:
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide the highest standard of perioperative patient care.
  • Ensure adherence to surgical safety protocols, infection control procedures, and best practices in perioperative nursing.
  • Monitor surgical outcomes and implement continuous improvements in care delivery.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
  • Monitor and assess the quality of care in the OR, implementing initiatives to improve patient safety and surgical outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare standards, regulations, and policies, including infection prevention protocols.
  • Conduct regular audits of surgical procedures, sterilization processes, and safety procedures.
  • Address and resolve any concerns or complaints regarding patient care or operational issues.
Collaboration with Other Departments:
  • Work closely with other hospital departments (e.g., Emergency Department, ICU, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, and Central Sterile Processing) to coordinate patient care and ensure effective communication across the facility.
  • Participate in hospital-wide committees to contribute to policy development and improvement initiatives.
Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management:
  • Ensure the OR is prepared for emergencies, including the development and implementation of protocols for surgical crisis situations.
  • Coordinate care during mass casualty events or other emergency scenarios requiring surgical intervention.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) is typically required; Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 5-7 years of clinical experience in an operating room or perioperative setting, with a minimum of 2-3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Current nursing license (RN)
