Job Summary: Looking for a Senior Database Administrator (MS SQL & Oracle) to support enterprise application discovery, database assessment, migration planning, and operational modernization. You are a "hands-on expert" who is equally comfortable in the technical weeds of complex database schemas as you are coordinating migration strategies with client stakeholders.
You thrive on the technical challenges of moving workloads from physical and VMware environments to OpenStack-based private clouds and have the "startup mentality" needed to pivot when migration windows get tight. You will be a key technical authority, ensuring that as our clients move to the next generation of infrastructure, their database performance, recovery, and high availability remain rock-solid.
What You'll Do
• Application and Database Discovery: Participate in assessment workshops to document current client applications, database dependencies, schemas, and operational requirements.
• Migration Assessment and Planning: Evaluate architectures hosted on physical servers or VMware and define migration approaches for OpenStack-based private cloud environments.
• MS SQL and Oracle Administration: Administer, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise database environments across production and non-production systems.
• Database Restore and Recovery: Perform database restores, recovery validation, and troubleshooting of restore-related issues to support migration and production operations.
• Performance Tuning: Analyze and tune SQL queries, indexes, execution plans, and database configurations to improve application and database performance.
• High Availability and Clustering: Support SQL Server clustering, Always On availability groups, and Oracle Data Guard to ensure robust failover and disaster recovery practices.
• Technical Documentation & Advisory: Document migration risks and operational runbooks while working directly with client teams to explain findings and recommend improvements.
What You Bring (Requirements)
• Professional Experience: 8+ years of hands-on DBA experience, specifically supporting business-critical databases and working across application and infrastructure teams.
• Database Mastery: Strong experience with both Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle Database, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• High Availability Expertise: Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server Always On, failover clustering, replication, and Oracle Data Guard/RMAN.
• Migration Proficiency: Proven experience moving databases from physical or VMware-based environments to private cloud or modern infrastructure platforms.
• Performance Engineering: Strong ability to troubleshoot performance issues and tune SQL queries, indexes, and execution plans.
• The "Builder" Mindset: A strategic approach to problem-solving, a startup mentality, and the flexibility to support migration readiness decisions during critical windows.
• Communication: Exceptional skills in documenting findings and explaining technical risks to both client and internal stakeholders.
Thanks & Regards,
Girish Kumar
