Open Enrollment information

What is an open enrollment?

An Open Enrollment job typically involves assisting individuals in selecting or enrolling in health insurance and other benefits during the designated enrollment period. These roles are common in the healthcare, insurance, and HR industries, where employees help clients understand plan options, process applications, and answer coverage-related questions. Positions may be temporary or seasonal, especially during peak enrollment times, and require strong communication and customer service skills.

What skills and qualifications are needed for open enrollment?

To excel in an Open Enrollment Specialist role, you need strong knowledge of health insurance plans, benefits administration, and excellent customer service skills, typically supported by experience in HR or benefits coordination. Familiarity with benefits administration platforms, HRIS systems, and understanding of relevant state and federal regulations (such as ACA or HIPAA) are commonly required. Exceptional communication, active listening, and problem-solving skills help effectively guide employees through complex enrollment processes. These competencies are crucial for ensuring employees understand their benefits options and for maintaining compliance with organizational and legal standards.

What challenges might I encounter as an open enrollment specialist, and how can I successfully navigate them?

One of the main challenges Open Enrollment Specialists face is communicating complex benefits information to employees with varying levels of understanding, often within tight deadlines. You may also need to handle a high volume of inquiries and manage sensitive personal information with utmost confidentiality. Success in the role involves keeping up-to-date with plan changes, maintaining excellent organizational skills, and providing clear, empathetic support to employees. By developing strong relationships with HR teams and benefits providers, you can ensure a smooth and efficient open enrollment process for everyone involved.

Job description

URGENT: Outside Sales Insurance Agent Benefits Enrollment (Phoenix, AZ)
5 Licensed Agents Needed ImmediatelyBusy Enrollments Next Month
We currently have 12 active client accounts scheduled for enrollment, creating immediate opportunities for licensed agents who are ready to work onsite, engage employees, and generate income right away.
This is a high-volume, consultative outside sales role with structured scheduling and dedicated enrollment support.
Why This Opportunity Matters
  • 12 confirmed accounts scheduled next month
  • Assigned enrollments - not cold leads
  • Onsite and virtual employee meetings
  • Strong infrastructure and enrollment support teams

If you are licensed and available, this role offers immediate production opportunities.
Commission-based role with built-in Stipend support
How You Get Paid
1. Get Paid While You Work
  • You receive a regular stipend every two weeks while running enrollment meetings
  • This gives you immediate cash flow from day one

2. Earn Commission From Your Production
  • You earn commissions from the employees you enroll
  • Commissions are paid after policies are confirmed by the carrier

How It Works Together
  1. You get paid early while doing the work
  2. Later, when commissions are released, everything is matched to your production

• If your commission is higher: You get paid the remaining balance
• You receive your full earnings based on what you produced
• If your commission is lower: You keep what you were already paid
• No payback. No deductions. No clawbacks
Why This Is Better
  • You don't have to wait 2-3 months to get paid
  • You have consistent income while working
  • You still keep full commission upside
  • You are protected during slower periods

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct group presentations and one-on-one benefit consultations (in-person and virtual).
  • Educate employees on benefit options including Life, Accident, Disability, and supplemental products.
  • Guide employees through the enrollment process using client systems and Employee Navigator.
  • Clearly explain coverage options, eligibility, and policy details.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records within the CRM system.
  • Coordinate closely with Enrollment Outreach Representatives (EORs) to ensure efficient scheduling and high participation rates.
  • Support post-enrollment follow-ups to address employee questions and resolve issues.
  • Represent ERB professionally while working onsite at client locations.

Qualifications
  • Active Life & Health Insurance License (Accident preferred).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in insurance sales, benefits enrollment, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and consultative sales skills.
  • Experience with public sector, municipal, or union-based enrollments is a plus.
  • Proficiency with CRM platforms and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.

Core Competencies
  • Client-focused and service-oriented mindset.
  • Consultative, needs-based selling approach.
  • Strong organization and follow-through.
  • Clear communicator who can simplify complex insurance concepts.
  • Collaborative team player with accountability.

Why Join ERB
  • Assigned enrollment opportunities-not cold leads.
  • Structured schedules with support teams handling logistics.
  • Ongoing growth through expanding public and private sector accounts.
  • Clear performance path and income flexibility.
