Posting Number: Stu001577 Posting Type: Student - Open to All Current ONU Students Job Title: Student Employment - Natural Areas Workers Position Type: Student Department: Biology Job Summary:
We are seeking to hire qualified ONU students to assist with managing and conducting surveys of the ONU Natural Areas, and maintaining on-campus facilities associated with the Biology and Environmental & Field Biology programs.
Principal Responsibilities
Maintain and enhance ONU Natural Areas, including the Tidd-Oakes Farm (TOF), the Metzger Nature Center (MNC), and portions of the main ONU campus (e.g. ponds and woodlot). These efforts encompass about 435 acres of land and multiple buildings and facilities.
Remove invasive species
Repair infrastructure
Monitor flora & fauna
Conduct field surveys
MNC landscape maintenance and upkeep
Painting and basic maintenance at MNC and TOF
During the summer months, natural areas workers will also manage the aquatics room, greenhouse, snake room and vegetative displays throughout various academic buildings. 
Water, prune and propagate plants
Re-pot plants as needed
Weeding and pruning of plant displays in Mathile and Meyer
Maintain saltwater and freshwater tanks
Feed aquatic invertebrates 
Caring for Plains Garter snakes
Required Skills:
  • A positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn new skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current ONU student in good academic standing in the School of Science, Technology & Mathematics
  • Valid driver's license
  • ONU van driver certification (must be completed online prior to start date)
  • Ability to provide personal transportation to the Tidd-Oakes Farm and the Metzger Nature Center
  • For summer positions, available from May 20, 2025 - August 15, 2025. Dates may be flexible with prior notification.
