Drupal Developer (Web Applications) – State Agency

Position Type: Contract (Through December 31, 2026)

Pay Rate: $48.00 – $54.00 / hr W2 (Dependent on experience)

Location: 100% Onsite – Phoenix, AZ (1110 W Washington St)

Target Start Date: Within 2 weeks of offer

About the Role

SunSoft Online is seeking an experienced Drupal Developer for an Arizona state agency's Office of the Director. In this role, you will architect, build, and maintain enterprise web applications while taking full ownership of development, UI, QA, and accessibility standards without relying on separate design or testing teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Core Development: Architect, build, and maintain custom Drupal 10/11 modules and themes using clean PHP, Twig, and CSS/SASS.

  • Database & Integrations: Integrate third-party APIs, optimize MySQL/PostgreSQL queries, and manage application workflows.

  • Maintenance & Performance: Lead performance optimization, implement caching strategies, execute routine security updates, and assist with architecture upgrades and content migrations.

  • Accessibility Remediation: Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards (including accessible authentication, target size, focus appearance, semantic HTML5, and WAI-ARIA).

  • Self-Directed QA: Perform cross-browser testing and validate accessibility using keyboard-only navigation and screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver).

Required & Preferred Qualifications
  • Required: 5+ years of hands-on Drupal development experience.

  • Required: Strong expertise in PHP, Twig, CSS/SASS, MySQL/PostgreSQL, and custom module/theme development.

  • Preferred: Deep understanding of coding standards and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) / WCAG 2.2 Level AA accessibility compliance.

  • Hands-on experience with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) and manual accessibility testing.
