Adjunct Instructor - World Religions (Online)
Indian River State College invites passionate educators to join our team as an Adjunct Instructor in World Religions. In this fully online role, you'll design and deliver engaging, accessible coursework on Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism; foster a collaborative virtual classroom; and provide timely, constructive feedback to support diverse learners. Ideal candidates hold a master's (or higher) with focused graduate coursework in Religious Studies (or a related field with at least 18 graduate hours in religion), possess exceptional communication skills, and bring proven expertise in leveraging technology to create an inclusive, dynamic learning environment.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction, this position is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging online courses. This role includes developing course materials, fostering a positive learning environment, and providing timely and constructive feedback to students. Utilize various tools and technologies to enhance student learning and ensure accessibility and inclusivity in the online environment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Instructing assigned classes; grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments.
  • Assigning final grades and delivering grades and grade justification sheets.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students virtually.
  • Maintaining a safe and effective online classroom environment.
  • Adhere to all adjunct faculty training and procedural guidelines as expressed by the college administration.
  • Completing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in Religious Studies; or Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in Literature and Languages (Hebrew, Sanskrit, Etc.), Philosophy or Anthropology if transcript shows evidence of specialization in Religion; or a Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in one of these areas.
  • Transcripts must show evidence of training in the major world religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism);
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Proven teaching skills with the ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensible way;
  • Ability to recognize and to respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds as well as the willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process;
  • Computer literacy and experience using computers in classroom with a willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to the teaching of specific discipline.

Preferred:
  • A Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in the teaching discipline
  • Two to five years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present oral lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as a copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
