Job description

We are partnering with a venture capital firm in Palo Alto, CA to identify a proactive and business-minded Senior Accountant for a long-term contract opportunity. This hybrid role requires three days per week in the office and two days remote.

The ideal candidate will have strong fund accounting experience, a hands-on approach to the month-end close, and the ability to work independently while collaborating across the finance team. This individual will also help oversee an outsourced accounts payable provider, ensuring accurate and efficient invoice processing and payment operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead month-end close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and preparation of supporting schedules.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
  • Perform detailed balance sheet and bank reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies.
  • Support fund accounting activities, including investment transactions, capital calls, distributions, and other fund-related accounting processes.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to improve accounting processes and provide financial insights that support business decisions.
  • Manage the relationship with the outsourced accounts payable provider, ensuring timely invoice processing, coding accuracy, and payment execution.
  • Utilize QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, and Expensify to support day-to-day accounting operations and expense management.
  • Assist with financial reporting, audit support, and special projects as needed.


5+ years of accounting experience, including senior-level and fund accounting experience within venture capital, private equity, investment management, or alternative investments.

Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, month-end close, journal entries, account and bank reconciliations, and the flow of financial transactions.

Experience managing or partnering with an outsourced accounts payable function.

Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Bill.com, and Expensify.

Proactive, detail-oriented professional with strong business acumen, excellent communication skills, and the ability to identify process improvements while collaborating effectively with internal teams and external service providers.
