Compensation Grade

The Analyzer Technician provides technical expertise and support relative to Process Analyzer Systems, which includes ensuring equipment functionality, troubleshooting failures, meeting compliance requirements, supporting reliability improvements, providing technical assistance for project development and commissioning as well as developing and applying maintenance procedures to support document control efforts.

Accountabilities of the job:

In support of daily operations and long-term development, the Analyzer Technician will work to meet schedule requirements while continuing efforts toward personal development and continuous improvement. Work quality and performance must be maintained to the highest level with the expectation of all jobs being completed, documented and verified as completely satisfactory.

  • Maintain online analytical instrumentation through preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Perform the routine checks and maintenance required to ensure equipment functionality and reliability.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough records of all analytical equipment calibrations in accordance with site quality procedures and documentation best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and repair issues that impair proper functionality of analytical systems.
  • Provide the required support needed to resolve non-scheduled priority jobs during normal and after hours.
  • Identify spare parts needed to reduce or eliminate equipment down time.
  • Recommend improvements to increase performance and reliability.
  • Assist with updating and creating equipment specification sheets, equipment files, checklist and procedures.
  • Train and mentor less experienced Analyzer Technicians.
  • Provide support for capital improvement projects including scope development, factory acceptance testing, installation oversight, commissioning efforts and equipment start-up.
  • Maintain the documentation and drawings needed to support continuous operation and improvement of analyzers.
  • Support Process Safety Management activities, such as PHA, MOC, Incident Investigations, Alarm Management, etc.
  • Assure compliance requirements are achieved for Process Analyzer Systems by performing, overseeing and documenting internal audits.
  • Support the analytical equipment obsolescence replacement strategy.
  • Utilize SAP to support the Maintenance and Reliability work processes.
  • Participate in incident investigations associated with Process Analyzer Systems.
  • Accountable for day-to-day technical support necessary to meet department and site Safety, Production, Environmental Compliance, and Quality goals and objectives.
Required profile:

Level of Education & Knowledge:

  • Associate degree related to Instrumentation or Analyzers, formal apprentice program, or Military background in relevant technical fields, strong chemistry background is a plus.
  • At least (5) years demonstrated practical analyzer work experience in maintaining process analyzers, sample conditioning systems and communications architecture with the following analyzer systems:
    • Siemens Maxum II and Optichrom Gas Chromatographs
    • Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS)
    • Infrared (IR)
    • Ultraviolet (UV)
    • Total Organic Compounds (TOC)
    • Area and Personnel Atmospheric Monitors (Sierra, Scott, Eagle, GasTech, MiniRae)

Experience & Technical Skills:

  • Willing and able to work extended hours to resolve critical equipment issues and support site outages.
  • Experience with on-line analyzers such as GC, IR, Mass Spec, Titration, CEMS, HRVOC, Oxygen, Water Quality, Gas Detection, etc., in a petrochemical facility.
  • Experienced in process analyzer maintenance, project commissioning and start-up support.
  • Fundamental understanding of chemistry, spectroscopy and chromatography.
  • Proficient using computer applications (SAP, Microsoft Office, TEAMS) and practical knowledge of computer hardware.
