A day in the life:
- Assist with selecting type and size of pipe and related materials according to the product being fabricated
- Assist with cutting pipe using pipe cutters, port-a-band saw, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine
- Assist with threading pipe, using pipe threading machine
- Assist with joining piping using welded, grooved, threaded, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints
- Operate shop forklift to lift or transport equipment, material, and supplies as necessary
- Load and unload shop materials from trucks and into buildings
- Furnishes experienced craft worker with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
- Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of mechanic's tools and equipment
- Cleans work area and restocks supplies and materials as necessary
- Works safely, encourage others to do so, and comply with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor
You should have:
- Knowledge of pipefitting or willingness to learn
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including unscheduled overtime (nights and weekends)
- A reliable source of transportation to and from work
- Knowledge of basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, fraction, and multiplication)
- Ability to work skillfully and safely with hands
- Maintain a positive attitude and willing to work in a team environment
- Ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers and other tradespeople
- Ability to pass a drug screen and background check
