What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Online Embroidery Digitizer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Online Embroidery Digitizer, you need a strong understanding of embroidery techniques, design principles, and proficiency in vector graphics, typically supported by relevant training or experience in textile arts or graphic design. Expertise with digitizing software such as Wilcom, Pulse, or Hatch, and familiarity with file formats and embroidery machine specifications are vital. Attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication with clients help ensure high-quality, custom results. These skills are essential to translate artwork into precise, machine-readable embroidery files that meet client needs and industry standards.

What are some common challenges faced by online embroidery digitizers, and how can they be overcome?

Online embroidery digitizers often face challenges such as working with low-quality artwork, managing tight client deadlines, and ensuring designs translate well from digital to fabric. To overcome these, it's important to communicate clearly with clients about image requirements, use specialized digitizing software to refine designs, and maintain a well-organized workflow to manage multiple projects efficiently. Collaboration with clients and other team members, such as designers or machine operators, also helps ensure design accuracy and client satisfaction.

Online Embroidery Digitizing involves creating digital files for embroidery machines, focusing on design and software skills. Both roles are essential in the embroidery industry but require different skill sets and work environments.

What is online embroidery digitizing?

Online embroidery digitizing is the process of converting artwork or images into a digital embroidery file using specialized software, which can then be read by embroidery machines. This service is typically offered over the internet, allowing clients to upload their designs and receive digitized files remotely. The digitized file contains instructions for the embroidery machine, such as stitch type, direction, and color sequence, ensuring an accurate recreation of the original artwork on fabric. Online embroidery digitizing has made it easier for individuals and businesses to access professional digitizing services without needing in-house expertise.

Job description

About Summit Golf Brands
Summit Golf Brands designs and sources high-end golf apparel and sportswear sold online and at leading country clubs and resorts worldwide. Our brands are carried at over 3,000 accounts across 25+ countries. We build product that lives at the intersection of performance, style, and craft, and the creative work behind it matters deeply to us.
About the Role
We are looking for a true creative. Someone with a sketchbook full of ideas, a sharp eye for what looks good on a garment, and the technical skills to take a concept from brief to final art. This person will touch everything from screen print graphics and embroidery applications to digital assets for social and email, working across multiple brands each with their own distinct aesthetic.
If you are someone who hears a rough idea and comes back with something better than anyone expected, we want to meet you.
What You'll Own
Graphic Design and Art Development
  • Concept and create net new graphics and artwork for screen print, embroidery, and digital applications across all Summit Golf Brands
  • Work across multiple brand aesthetics including golf and country club, lifestyle and fashion forward, and athletic and performance driven, with a strong understanding of what makes each brand distinct
  • Take general ideas and briefs from the product and marketing teams and translate them into polished, production ready creative
  • Bring original concepts and fresh ideas to the table proactively, pushing the creative direction forward within established brand guardrails
  • Develop a wide variety of embroidery application types, constantly exploring new ways to use placement, stitch texture, dimension, and layering to create unique and commercially compelling product details
  • Stay current on graphic trends, embroidery techniques, and apparel decoration innovations to continuously bring newness to the product

Digital and Marketing Creative Support
  • Support the marketing and ecommerce teams with graphic assets for social media, email campaigns, and digital content
  • Ensure all digital creative is on brand, visually consistent, and delivered on time to support the broader marketing calendar
  • Assist with layout and design needs as they arise across the business

File Management and Asset Library
  • Own the organization and management of all design files and creative assets, ensuring everything is properly labeled, version controlled, and easily accessible to the broader team
  • Maintain a clean, organized asset library that the product, marketing, and ecommerce teams can rely on
  • Prepare and hand off final production files to the product team for vendor submission, ensuring files are clean, accurate, and meet technical requirements for screen print and embroidery production
What You Bring
  • Proven experience as a graphic artist or designer, ideally within apparel, sportswear, fashion, or a related industry
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, these are non-negotiable
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates range across graphic styles, from clean and refined to bold and illustrative
  • Strong illustration and hand drawn capability is a significant plus. The ability to create original artwork from scratch, not just manipulate existing assets, sets candidates apart in this role
  • Deep understanding of embroidery as a decoration technique, including how designs translate from screen to thread and what makes an application visually distinctive on garment
  • Experience designing for screen print production including an understanding of color separations, registration, and print-ready file prep
  • Ability to work across multiple brand identities simultaneously without losing the distinct voice of each
  • Strong organizational skills with experience managing design files and asset libraries
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, moving between concepting on your own and executing on direction from the team
  • A genuine passion for craft, creativity, and making things that are visually exceptional
  • Passion for golf, sport, or the active lifestyle space is a plus
