Job Description:

FGS is seeking a motivated Construction Security Escort / Physical Security Specialist to support multiple physical security, facility modernization, and construction projects at the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) located within the National Maritime Intelligence Center (NMIC) in Suitland, Maryland. The successful candidate will provide continuous escort services for uncleared construction personnel, vendors, inspectors, and visitors performing work within Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs) and other controlled-access environments.

This position plays a critical role in protecting classified information and ensuring construction activities are conducted in full compliance with Intelligence Community (IC), Department of Defense (DoD), and facility-specific security requirements. The individual will work closely with Government Security Representatives, construction managers, project personnel, and FGS leadership while supporting multiple concurrent projects across the ONI campus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Escort and maintain continuous visual observation of uncleared contractors, vendors, inspectors, and visitors working within SCIFs and other restricted areas.

  • Ensure escorted personnel comply with all government security procedures, access restrictions, and facility operating requirements.

  • Prevent unauthorized access to classified information, controlled equipment, secure communications, and restricted workspaces.

  • Verify visitor credentials, access authorizations, identification badges, and work permits before granting entry into controlled areas.

  • Maintain detailed escort logs, visitor records, activity reports, incident documentation, and daily accountability records.

  • Monitor construction, renovation, maintenance, telecommunications, electrical, mechanical, and information technology projects occurring within secure spaces.

  • Coordinate daily with Government Physical Security personnel, Facility Security Officers (FSOs), project managers, construction supervisors, and Contracting Officer Representatives (CORs).

  • Immediately report security violations, safety concerns, suspicious activities, or unauthorized actions to appropriate Government security personnel.

  • Support opening and closing secure work areas before and after construction activities.

  • Assist with tool, material, and equipment accountability when required by Government security procedures.

  • Support multiple simultaneous projects while maintaining professionalism and exceptional customer service.

  • Perform shift work, overtime, weekend, holiday, or after-hours escort coverage as mission requirements dictate.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality while working in classified environments.

  • Perform additional physical security or administrative support duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship.

  • Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) security clearance.

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, Federal Government, military, or secure commercial facilities.

  • Experience escorting uncleared personnel within controlled or classified environments preferred.

  • Working knowledge of physical security principles and access control procedures.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Government personnel, contractors, and visitors.

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain situational awareness throughout extended escort assignments.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Office applications for reporting and documentation.

  • Valid driver's license.

Desired Qualification:

  • Previous experience supporting the Office of Naval Intelligence, Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, or other classified Federal facilities.

  • Experience supporting SCIF construction, renovation, or modernization projects.

  • Familiarity with Intelligence Community physical security requirements, visitor control procedures, and secure facility operations.

  • Military, law enforcement, security forces, corrections, or physical security background.

  • Experience supporting access control systems, visitor management systems, or badging operations.

  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety certification.

  • CPR, First Aid, or emergency response training.

  • Experience supporting multiple concurrent construction or facility projects.

  • Knowledge of SCIF construction practices and controlled work environments.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required.

  • Associate's degree in a related field preferred.

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance is required before the first day of employment.

  • Must maintain eligibility for continued access to classified information throughout employment.

  • Must successfully complete all required Government security indoctrinations and annual security training.

  • Must comply with all applicable Intelligence Community, Department of Defense, and ONI security policies and procedures.

Physical, Work Environment & Conditions: (please update)

  • Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods (8 to 12 hours shifts).

  • Ability to maintain continuous vigilance and situational awareness throughout assigned shifts.

  • Ability to distinguish color-coded documents, badges, and indicator lights.

  • May require walking between different buildings, use stairs, and navigate around spaces under construction.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly with task leads and personnel under escort.

  • Need to hear alarms, public address announcements, and safety briefs.
