Job Responsibilities
The mission of the South Carolina Department of Education is to serve students, support teachers, empower parents, and engage the community so that every student graduates prepared to reach their full potential.
Job Purpose:
The Program Assistant will play a key role in supporting the implementation and administration of the Education Scholarship Trust Fund (ESTF) Program. This position will conduct data entry, customer support, and case management. The position is supportive of core program procedures such as transaction review, enrollment verification, application processing, customer support, and coordination with education service providers.
Responsibilities:
The Program Assistant will be responsible for several job functions:
  • Transaction Review. Evaluate and approve/dispute financial transactions submitted through the ESTF platform to ensure compliance with program guidelines.
  • Enrollment Verification. Input, review, or maintain data supportive of the verification of student enrollment status across participating schools and service providers.
  • Application Review. Assist in reviewing and processing applications for scholarship eligibility, renewals, and appeals.
  • Customer Support. Provide timely and professional support to families, schools, and service providers via phone, email, and online platforms.
  • Provider Coordination. Support onboarding, training, and ongoing communication with education service providers participating in the ESTF program.
  • Data Management & Reporting. Input data in a manner necessary for the creation and the maintenance of accurate records and contribute to regular reporting on program metrics, compliance, and performance
  • Other Duties. Addresses duties assigned by the supervisor necessary for the advancement of the program.

This position is located in the Office of Education Choice and Family Engagement.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in education, business, data management, office administration, or a related field. At least two (2) years of experience in program administration, customer service, or education-related work.
  • Experience with customer support and data entry. Experience with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or case management systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
