This career allows you to actively participate in coordination of patient flow and services with a focus on patient centered care. As a medical assistant for WMed, you will collect patient information related to the patient visit or procedure. Assisting with patient care and administering approved medication is a major part of the day. Assisting physician and team members with with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Maintaining a positive attitude while providing assistance in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary clinic. Assisting in optimizing education for residents and students in Program rotation.

WMed has opportunities for:
Medical Assistant I - no certification required! Experience in a clinical setting required. $15.90 - $18.55/hour +, dependent upon experience as a medical assistant or equivalent/relevant clinical position.
Medical Assistant II - must have current medical assistant certification (CMA or RMA) and experience in a clinical setting. $17.45 - $20.35/hour +, dependent upon years of experience and certification.
Medical Assistant III - must have current medical assistant certification (CMA or RMA) and several years' experience in a clinical setting. Those with leadership and training experience will be given preference. $19.65 - $22.90/hour +, dependent upon years of experience as a medical assistant and leadership experience.
We offer a Monday - Friday schedule between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. (nights and weekends off!). Our full time employees receive 8 full-day and 2 half-day paid holidays, an 8 hour preference holiday, 8 hours of paid volunteer time per year, and an extremely generous Paid Time Off (PTO) accrual as well as an annual wellness reimbursement of $300. Tuition reimbursement is available within the first year of full time employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for patient flow and room assignments.
  • Obtains age appropriate vital signs upon admission.
  • Collects patient information pertinent to physician visit or procedure.
  • Assists physicians and team by preforming ordered treatments and tests.
  • Performs competency-based point of care waived testing.
  • Administers IM SubQ and PO medication as approved.
  • Documents patient care and actions per clinic standard.
  • Facilitates scheduling for diagnostic work-ups, procedures and referrals.
  • Refers abnormal lab work to physician for appropriate follow up.
  • Pends prescription refills.
  • Prepares, maintains, and cleans exam rooms.
  • Administers immunizations following protocols
  • Completes prior authorizations for patient medications
  • Preforms 12 lead EKGs and places Holter Monitors for patients as ordered
  • Manages Clinical in-boxes
  • Participates in mentorship of medical students in immunization administration for immunization rotation.
  • Maintains equipment; orders supplies as needed.
  • Discusses day to day issues with team leader for resolution.
  • Directs incoming calls to appropriate resource.
  • Maintains CEUs required by certification/registration.
  • Availability to work occasional overtime on weekends or evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquires knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1 Year of clinical health care experience required.
  • Graduate of an accredited program or equivalent education or experience preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Eligible for certification or registration as Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant.
  • BLS recommended upon hire, required within 60 days of hire.
  • Tuberculin Administration Certified within 6 months of hire, required per department needs.
  • Immunization training required within 3 months of hire.
  • WMed provided Competencies based education/training Maintenance required.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge and proficiency in EMR.
  • Comprehensive understanding of HIPAA.
  • Ability to collect and document data from patients.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in waived testing.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in administering medications.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Ability to interpret, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions accurately.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in Outlook.
  • Ability to accept and apply feedback.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize priorities in organization of work flow.
