Job description

Description
The Respiratory Therapist / CPAP Specialist is responsible for the initiation, education, and ongoing support of patients requiring CPAP, BiPAP, and other non-invasive ventilation therapies. This role combines clinical respiratory therapy skills with specialized expertise in sleep-disordered breathing, patient compliance, and home medical equipment (HME) protocols.
  • Set up and educate patients on the proper use of CPAP/BiPAP devices and related supplies (masks, humidifiers, filters)
  • Perform mask fittings, pressure settings adjustments, and equipment troubleshooting
  • Provide detailed instruction and coaching on sleep apnea therapy, equipment care, and compliance expectations
  • Monitor patient compliance through manufacturer software (e.g., AirView, DreamMapper, EncoreAnywhere) and follow up as needed
  • Collaborate with physicians, sleep labs, and other care providers to ensure timely setup and clinical documentation
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all patient interactions and equipment setups
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide clinical guidance to patients experiencing discomfort or therapy challenges
  • Ensure documentation meets payer requirements (e.g., Medicare face-to-face notes, sleep study reports)
  • Stay current on industry standards, insurance guidelines, and manufacturer updates
  • Support resupply program by educating patients on replacement schedules and benefits

Requirements
  • Available for on-call as needed
  • Required: Licensed or Certified Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT) in the state of employment
  • Required: Current CPR/BLS certification
  • 1+ year of experience in respiratory care, preferably with CPAP/BiPAP therapy or HME
  • Strong interpersonal and patient education skills
  • Familiarity with CPAP software platforms and remote compliance monitoring
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with strong documentation and follow-up skills
  • Ability to work independently in the field or remotely with minimal supervision
