Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma Center requiring 2 years of recent ED experience and an active IL RN license.

Details
  • Level 1 Trauma Center, Level II NICU, and Primary Stroke Center with 273 beds
  • 44 individual ED rooms, 10 hallway beds, and approximately 5 cardiac chairs
  • Average patient load of 150 patients per 24 hours across all ages, from neonates to geriatrics
  • No inpatient pediatric units; pediatric patients transferred to affiliated facilities
  • Patient population includes stroke (TPA administration), DKA, trauma (GSW, MVC, elderly falls), geriatric psych, abdominal pain, COVID, STEMI, and a heavy behavioral health population
  • ICU holds managed with EICU RN support
  • RN patient ratio 1:4-6, typically 1:4-5 during days and flexing to 1:6 at night (1:3 when fully staffed)
  • 12-hour evening shift, 3pm-3am, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • No floating required
  • Self-scheduling with 6-week schedule cycles
  • EMR: EPIC required
  • IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing via Pyxis; Ranger system used for massive transfusions
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, TNCC, CPI/MOAB
  • Preferred certifications: TCRN, TNS, ENPC
  • Skills required: IV starts, assisting with chest tube insertion, medication titration (pressors, insulin, sedation), trauma experience, and stroke experience with TPA administration
  • Ultrasound-guided IV skills preferred
  • Must be able to draw a blood culture without contamination, subject to re-validation
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Candidate's middle name or initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
  • Support staff includes 5-7 ED techs during the day and 3 overnight, charge nurse, task RN, alert RN, electronic ICU RN, RT, ED physicians, mid-level providers, and hospitalists all available 24/7
  • Centralized tele monitoring throughout the unit and at bedside; ED techs trained to add/remove tele for admitted patients
  • Orientation includes Day 1 with educator meeting, badge issuance, and hospital tour, followed by Days 2-3 shadowing a preceptor on 12-hour shifts
  • Scrub color required: Navy Blue for RN
  • Free parking available
  • Time off requests go through the unit manager
  • First-time travelers welcome with 2 years of ED experience
  • No radius rules; local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees of the health system or its subsidiaries must be separated at least 12 months before being eligible for travel assignments
