Job description

About the team

The API Platform team builds the foundation everything else at Nayya runs on, the APIs, services, and developer tools that power our products and our partner integrations. When a carrier sends us data, an HR platform calls a Nayya endpoint, or MCP tool via it's agent it goes through our platform.

We're now building toward a future where AI agents are first-class consumers of our platform. That means designing APIs, tools, and protocols that agents and MCP servers ours and our partners' can use safely, predictably, and at scale to act on behalf of members. If you're excited about shaping what an "agent-native" benefits platform looks like, this is the team to do it on.

What you'll do
  • Design, build, and operate the APIs and services that power Nayya's products, partner integrations, and AI agents
  • Make our platform genuinely great for agents to consume, clear schemas, predictable behavior, strong guardrails, idempotency, and the observability needed to debug non-deterministic callers
  • Define Nayya's agent-facing infrastructure: tool definitions, MCP-style protocols, agent authentication and authorization, action auditing, and safety controls
  • Own services end-to-end, from architecture through deployment, monitoring, and on-call
  • Improve the developer experience for internal teams, external partners, and the AI engineers building on top of the platform
  • Set technical direction for the API Platform: API standards, versioning, authentication, rate limiting, and observability
  • Mentor engineers across the company, raise the bar on design reviews, and help shape engineering culture
  • Partner closely with security and infrastructure to keep us fast, reliable, and HIPAA-compliant
What we're looking for
  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time building backend services and public or partner-facing APIs
  • Deep expertise in API design (REST, GraphQL, or gRPC), distributed systems, and the tradeoffs that come with both
  • Strong production experience with any of Python / Go / Node / Typescript / Ruby on Rails on AWS.
  • A point of view on what makes an API or tool good (or bad) for an AI agent to use, and the instincts to design for that from day one
  • Track record of leading projects that span multiple teams, and mentoring the engineers around you
  • Comfortable owning operational quality observability, on-call, incident response, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; you can explain a technical decision to engineers, PMs, and partners equally well
Nice to have
  • Hands-on experience building with LLMs - function/tool calling, prompt and context design, evals, and the patterns that make AI systems work reliably in production
  • Experience designing or shipping agent-facing infrastructure - MCP servers, tool catalogs, agent gateways, or similar
  • Familiarity with agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, LangGraph, etc.) and evaluation tooling for LLM applications
  • Experience with authentication and authorization patterns for agents acting on behalf of users (delegated auth, scoped tokens, action approval flows)
  • Experience in healthtech, fintech, insurance, or other regulated industries
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA, SOC 2, or similar compliance frameworks
  • Open-source contributions or public technical writing
Why Nayya
  • Direct impact on a problem that touches almost every working American
  • A team that takes ownership seriously and ships
  • Competitive compensation, equity, and a benefits package worthy of a benefits company
