Job Description
We offer a merit-based work-from-home program based on job responsibilities. After initial training in-person, this specific role could have the flexibility to work from home up to 3 days per week.
Please note that we are not currently hiring fully remote positions. All candidates must have the ability to work in one of our tech offices. The location for this role is in Lansing, Michigan only.
Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier, is seeking a motivated individual to join our Actuarial Division as a Software Developer. The position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting Duck Creek Author Manuscripts to support our pricing plans. This role supports both legacy black box rating initiatives and larger modernization efforts through Duck Creek manuscript development and works closely with the actuarial pricing analysts to ensure products rate appropriately. This position requires the person to:
  • Define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain changes within Duck Creek Author.
  • Effectively communicate with other employees through verbal and written means.
  • Actively participate in code/design reviews and brainstorming sessions.
  • Develop program and system documentation.
  • Analyze and fix software errors in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Consult with users, architects, project leaders, and management to resolve problems and suggest alternatives.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, bachelor's degree in a STEM field with Computer Science minor, or equivalent experience is required
  • Knowledge of COBOL, DB2, TSO, databases, or SQL is a plus
  • Exposure to any of the following programming languages: R, SAS, Python, MATLAB, C, C++, Java, JCL
  • Experience with source control management software (Git) and large software development projects is a plus
  • Experience with Duck Creek Author is a plus
  • Enthusiasm for problem solving
  • Above average communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to adapt to constant change and innovation
  • Must be able to learn and effectively use tools and software development techniques as practiced, acquired, or adopted within the Actuarial Division
