Description

The Estimator is responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and data-driven cost estimates. The Estimator will support the Operations, Repair, and Maintenance divisions of Takkion. This is a hands-on position accountable for developing and executing plans that will enable the company to achieve its sales goal.


Estimating & Cost Analysisย 

  • Review proposals, technical specifications, scope documents, and customer requirements to prepare detailed cost estimates.ย 
  • Partner with Operations Leaders to determine labor hours, shop flow requirements, and resource allocation.ย 
  • Analyze labor, materials, tooling, overhead, and schedule impacts to build comprehensive estimates.ย 
  • Utilize P&L data and historical job performance metrics to validate pricing assumptions and margin targets.ย 
  • Develop cost models specific to remanufacturing workflows (tear-down, inspection, repair, rebuild, QA, packaging).ย 

Vendor Coordinationย 

  • Solicit and evaluate quotes from vendors.ย 
  • Align vendor payment terms, warranty coverage, and service conditions with proposal terms.ย 
  • Negotiate pricing, quality standards, and volume agreements with suppliers.ย 
  • Maintain and update a ย ย ย ย ย market pricing database to support competitive strategy.ย 

Forecasting & Reportingย 

  • Prepare job forecasts by analyzing pipeline trends, win/loss data, labor demand, and material cost fluctuations.ย 
  • Present weekly forecasting and pricing insights to leadership.ย 
  • Track outstanding bids and conduct post-bid reviews (including lost bid analysis) to refine pricing strategies.ย 
  • Support capacity planning in coordination with shop operations and scheduling.ย 

Cross-Functional Collaborationย 

  • Work closely with Accounting on margin validation and cost controls.ย 
  • Support Sales and Business Development in proposal strategy and pricing structure.ย 
  • Assist Senior Management in developing long-term remanufacturing growth strategies.ย 
  • Collaborate with Inventory and Purchasing teams to ensure pricing accuracy and material availability.ย 
  • Maintain working knowledge of wind industry standards, OEM requirements, and regulatory considerations.ย 

Continuous Improvementย 

  • Analyze estimate-to-actual variances and recommend process improvements.ย 
  • Identify opportunities to standardize estimating tools, templates, and labor benchmarks.ย 
  • Contribute to scalable pricing models as remanufacturing volume increases.

Requirements

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, construction, industrial engineering, or other relevant degree preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of estimating, project costing, or operations analysis experience preferred.ย 
  • Experience in wind energy, heavy equipment repair, industrial manufacturing, or remanufacturing strongly preferred.ย 
  • Understanding of the quote to sales to scheduling process.
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines in a dynamic, high-growth environment.ย 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (advanced formulas, cost modeling), Word, and Outlook.ย 
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or similar ERP systems preferred.ย 
  • Excellent organizational skills, communications skills, detail-oriented, the ability to multi-task, and most importantly, the ability to work well in a team.ย 
  • Demonstrates openness to change, flexibility, and adaptability.ย 
  • Self-starter with a drive for continuous improvement of the business operations.ย 

Physical Requirements

This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding of company policy, procedures, and values. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments. This position operates in an office environment. Specific physical requirements include:ย 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.ย 
  • ย Required to travel up to 25%.ย 
  • Occasionally lifting weights of fifty (50) pounds or less.ย
