Olms are aquatic salamanders native to the underground waters of Central and Southeastern Europe, particularly in the Dinaric Alps. They are known for their pale, almost translucent skin, and their adaptation to life in complete darkness, which includes loss of pigmentation and eyesight. Olms can live for decades and are remarkable for their low metabolism and ability to survive for years without food. They primarily feed on small aquatic invertebrates and are considered a vulnerable species due to habitat loss and pollution.
