Job description
Hendrick Motorsports, a leader in the auto racing industry is currently seeking an experienced race engine design engineer.
Summary: Create and deliver engineering solutions with precision in a timely manner to drive reliability and competitiveness. The successful candidate will be an analytical problem solver, while also possessing the necessary
soft skills that enable success in this field.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
- Utilize NX for mechanical design. This includes 3D solid and surface modeling, assemblies, 2D manufacturing drawings, and generating detailed engine assembly BOM documentation.
- Perform structural analysis and optimization of components and assemblies using Ansys FEA.
- Support documentation through the creation of bills of materials and standard work procedures.
- Manage assigned projects through the development process related to design, testing, analysis, and production rollout of powertrain racing components and systems. This can include combustion, fuel, oil, cooling, control, and various other powertrain subsystems along with all associated components.
- Design composite components, including bonding, lay-up, tools, and molds related to the process.
- Design additive manufactured components (both polymers and metals) and operate internal 3D prototype printers.
- Utilize measurement equipment and laser scanner to reverse engineer components.
- Test rig design, including servo hydraulic and electromechanical components.
- Alter and update existing designs to retain intended functional or operational performance.
- Investigate and/or communicate with other engineers or race team personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
- Investigate component failures, diagnose faulty operation, document findings, and make recommendations.
- Organize and carry out component tests.
- Interpret and analyze results and data.
- Provide technical specifications for outsourcing parts and interface with suppliers.
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Education/Experience:
- Must have five plus years of experience in the design, development, and maintenance of race engine systems and associated equipment.

- Requires strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Requires experience with race engine assembly process and procedures.
Computer Skills:
- Requires knowledge of Unigraphics NX CAD or related design software.
Physical Demands:
- Requires ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - safety glasses. Frequently stands, walks, sits, manually manipulates, lifts/carries up to 20 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally reaches outward, reaches above shoulder, climbs, crawls, squats or kneels, bends, lifts/carries over 100 pounds, and pushes/pulls up to 100 pounds.
