ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a privately owned electrical testing and field service company based in Huntsville, Alabama. The company has been in business for more than 60 years, including support work on the Apollo space program, and continues to serve a blue-chip client base across data centers, utilities, industrial plants, and renewables.

The company operates a single-site compound with offices, a fully equipped shop, a dedicated training center stocked with real apparatus, and a warehouse. It is owned and run by two working partners. There is no private equity, no holding company, and no layer of corporate noise between the field and the people making decisions.

Work spans the country: Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Indiana, upstate New York, California, and Florida, with a heavy Southeast core and project work in renewables, data centers, and industrial sites.

THE ROLE

This is a senior field service position for a technician who can run jobs, troubleshoot, and contribute on a crew working independently. You will work across commercial, industrial, and utility sites, often in the same week, on a mix of testing, commissioning, and acceptance work.

Senior technicians are needed immediately, with capacity for additional hires through the year. The right person will fit into a culture that prioritizes the quality of the team over the size of the team.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Acceptance and maintenance testing on circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and MV/HV cable
  • Protection relay testing and basic commissioning support
  • Cable terminations on data center and industrial projects
  • Switchgear lineup testing across data center, industrial, and utility environments
  • Solar acceptance testing and substation upgrade work in active project regions
  • Working with modern test equipment including Doble and Omicron platforms
  • Writing clear, accurate test reports tied to NETA ATS and MTS standards
  • Mentoring junior technicians and contributing to in-house training programs

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The certification matters less than the foundation. If you understand the why behind the work, the rest can be taught.

Strong fits include:

  • NETA Level II or III technicians
  • OEM field service technicians, including breaker mechanics with field exposure
  • Ex-Navy nukes including Electrician's Mates, Nuclear ETs, and Prime Power graduates
  • Offshore oil and gas / marine apparatus and switchgear technicians
  • Industrial maintenance electricians with substation, switchgear, or apparatus experience
  • Solar and renewables technicians with apparatus testing exposure

Required experience and skills:

  • 5+ years of hands-on testing or directly equivalent technical experience
  • Working knowledge of circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, and MV/HV cable
  • Comfortable working across low and medium voltage, with high voltage exposure a plus
  • Familiarity with NETA ATS / MTS, NFPA 70E, and ANSI / IEEE standards
  • Experience with Doble, Omicron, Megger, or similar test sets
  • OSHA 10 or 30
  • Clean driving record and willingness to travel as the project mix demands

What you do not need:

  • A current NETA certification. The company will pay for and support your cert progression and has a track record of moving uncertified hires to Level III in under a year.
  • A specific OEM background. Brand familiarity transfers.

WHAT THE COMPANY OFFERS

Compensation and benefits:

  • Starting pay $60+ per hour to $85 per hour, calibrated to experience and certification level
  • Approximately $9 per hour in benefits value on top of hourly pay
  • 401(k) with dollar-for-dollar match up to 4%, vested day one
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield Platinum Plan with single coverage fully company-paid; family coverage employee pays only the difference between single and family cost
  • Company-paid $100,000 life insurance policy
  • Company-paid long-term and short-term disability
  • Guaranteed 40 hours per week, paid even when the schedule is light

Travel and equipment:

  • Company truck, gas card, and American Express
  • Company phone, laptop, and iPad as needed
  • GSA per diem with lodging covered on the company card and M&IE paid out, keep what you save
  • Time-and-a-half after 40 hours, double time on Sundays
  • Relocation support available for the right candidate

Training and growth:

  • Dedicated on-site training center stocked with metal-enclosed switchgear, relays, 480V breakers, contactors, reactors, capacitors, and transformers, real apparatus, not slideware
  • Structured monthly all-hands training led by senior staff, with intent and assessment built in
  • Cert pathway support, the company pays for your testing and certifications and has a proven track record of building Level III technicians in-house
  • Career growth into lead, ops, and training roles for technicians who want it

CULTURE AND FIT

This is a small, owner-run company. The owners are on site every day and on the jobs when needed. Decisions get made fast, hires get made fast, and the people side of the business is treated as a top priority at this company.
