What You Will Be Doing:

As the Oil Lab Supervisor, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and daily operation of the SOS Fluid Analysis Laboratory. This includes oversight of scheduling, staffing, workflow management, laboratory training programs, and ensuring a safe and compliant work environment. You will maintain Quality Assurance in accordance with ISO 9001 or ISO 17025 standards; ensure Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance; and oversee the efficient and safe operation of analytical equipment and instrumentation. You will be responsible for delivering rapid, accurate test results and maintaining the highest ethical and technical standards, while also being accountable for employee development, customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and supporting the financial performance of the lab.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Align human capital to optimize output, ensuring proper workload scheduling and adequate coverage for hours of operation.
  • Manage daytoday personnel activities within the Lab, including training new employees and developing existing employees.
  • Ensure the Lab operates at expected performance levels (24hour turn times).
  • Liaison for the Fluid Lab with Condition Monitoring Analysts.
  • Review and interpret oil, fuel, and coolant analysis data in accordance with CAT SOS Service guidelines.
  • Provide detailed diagnostic recommendations related to component wear, contamination, and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support to Yancey sales, service, and customers regarding lubrication, condition monitoring, bulk oil supply, and SOS program tools.
  • Contact customers immediately concerning critical reports; follow up to understand maintenance actions taken.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of SOS Services database information.
  • Oversee calibration, standardization, and quality control of laboratory instruments; ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Perform diagnostic repairs and preventative maintenance on lab instruments to ensure data accuracy.
  • Maintain sample productivity to meet department goals.
  • Produce highquality observation reviews and customer recommendations related to fleet equipment and lubricant trends.
  • Promote best practices for lubrication and fuel storage/handling.
  • Provide SOS program orientation and oil analysis training as needed.
  • Perform diagnostics, repair and preventive maintenance actions on lab instruments as necessary to ensure accuracy data.
  • Ensure that Yancey customers have a favorable impression and consistently good experience
  • Assist laboratory operations during peak periods or absence.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Participate in required safety program, and work in a safe manner.
  • Additional duties as assigned by manager.
Who We Are Looking For:

To be successful in this position you should have strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to translate laboratory objectives into structured workflows, clear schedules, and measurable performance outcomes. You must have excellent communication abilities for coordinating across laboratory staff, operations, safety teams, and customers to endure alignment, transparency, and timely delivery of accurate test results. You should also have a high level technical expertise and attention to detail to uphold Quality Assurance standard requirements, while maintaining strict Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance. 

Education/Experience:
  • 2+ years of lab experience.
  • Experience using LIMS, CAT SOS Services Management, and SOS Services Web program is a plus.
  • Experience with ISO 9000 or ISO 17025 Quality Assurance principles and practices a plus.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • Familiarity with heavy machinery maintenance principles and in-depth understanding of mechanical detail, design, and equipment repair.
  • Thorough knowledge of lubrication applications and maintenance principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of condition management, oil analysis, and lubrication principles.
  • Sound understanding of condition monitoring technologies and tools including their applications.
  • Background in maintenance systems and processes, with a working knowledge of maintenance practices associated with heavy equipment and lubrication preferred.
  • A sound pattern or process of using machine information and condition based data to troubleshoot, solve problems and make difficult decisions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills coupled with strong information management abilities.
  • Excellent relationship skills (influence, direct, motivate, evaluate), team building techniques, and leadership capabilities that can be applied both internally and externally.
  • Strong competencies utilizing MS Office and other web based and software analytical programs are required.
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
  • Must Be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Climate controlled environment.  Work under fluorescent lighting. Moderate noise levels.  Possible noise and vibrations carried over from the shop. Working with hazardous materials.
