TotalEnergies Renewables USA is on an ambitious path to develop, construct, and operate a robust portfolio of onshore Wind projects across the U.S. To support the construction of the Laurel Wind Project, we are seeking an experienced HSE Lead to provide on-site HSE leadership and governance throughout project execution.
This is a highly visible, field-based role focused on construction safety performance, contractor governance, and regulatory compliance. If you are a hands-on safety professional who enjoys being in the field, working closely with EPCs and subcontractors, and setting clear safety expectations, this role offers meaningful impact within a global energy organization.
Activities
The HSE Lead serves as the Owner's Representative for Health, Safety, Environment, and Security during construction of the Laurel Wind Project, providing site-based HSE leadership and governance across all project activities. This role ensures compliance with TotalEnergies HSE policies (MAESTRO), contractual requirements, and all applicable regulatory obligations, while actively promoting a strong and proactive safety culture among EPCs and subcontractors. The HSE Lead is responsible for overseeing all Health, Safety, and Environmental aspects of the project, supporting safe execution of construction activities through field presence, risk management, compliance verification, and continuous engagement with project teams.
What You'll Do
HSE Leadership & Contractor Governance
  • Lead and oversee all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) activities for wind project construction, including turbine erection, heavy lifts, crane operations, electrical work, and Balance of Plant (BOP) activities.
  • Ensure contractor and subcontractor compliance with TotalEnergies MAESTRO standards, contractual HSE requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Actively promote a strong and proactive safety culture aligned with TotalEnergies' values: "Safety for me, for you, for all."

Risk Management, Field Oversight & Documentation
  • Review, validate, and approve HSE documentation, including HSE plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), lift plans, and construction method statements.
  • Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and field verifications.
  • Track findings and ensure timely closure of corrective and preventive actions.

Incident Management, Performance & Reporting
  • Lead or support incident investigations and near-miss reviews, including root cause analyses and implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Monitor HSE performance indicators (KPIs) and provide routine reporting to project and regional leadership.

Regulatory Compliance & Workforce Engagement
  • Support regulatory, OSHA, and environmental compliance requirements throughout construction activities.
  • Participate in and support HSE inductions, toolbox talks, safety moments, and emergency preparedness drills.

Candidate Profile
What You Bring
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Minimum 5+ years of HSE experience on construction projects, preferably within the wind energy sector
  • Proven HSE leadership experience supporting wind energy construction, including EPCs and subcontractors
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and U.S. construction safety standards
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing EPC and subcontractor Safety Management Systems
  • Hands-on experience with working-at-heights programs, fall protection systems, and related safety controls
  • OSHA 30 (Construction) certification required; wind-specific safety training preferred
  • Professional HSE certifications such as CSP, ASP, or CHST strongly preferred
  • Ability to work full-time on an active construction site in outdoor field conditions
  • U.S. work authorization

Preferred
  • Professional HSE certification (CSP, CHST, NEBOSH, or equivalent)
  • Owner-side or EPC governance experience in renewable energy projects
  • Familiarity with TotalEnergies MAESTRO or similar HSE management systems
