Job description

The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is now accepting applications for the position of Athletics Business Operations Intern (Student Wage) to support the Business Office and Director of Employee Support, Success, and Engagement.
The Athletics Business Operations Intern will provide administrative support and assistance with projects related to the financial and human resources aspects of the Athletics Department. The ideal candidate will be interested in a career in Collegiate Athletics, Finance, and/or Human Resources. The day-to-day schedule can be set according to the student's class schedule; a minimum of 5-10 hours a week is preferred. The Athletics Business Operations Intern will abide and adhere to the highest confidentiality standards, as well as all NCAA, ACC, and University rules and regulations.
Roles/Responsibilities:
Business Office
  • Assist with student-athlete textbook and/or tax reimbursements.
  • Process independent contractor payment requests.
  • Create expense reports for medical billing and travel charges.
  • Assist with financial reporting accuracy.
  • Provide financial data analysis where needed.
  • Assist with data collection where needed.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Administrative Services
  • Assist with Driver Authorization and Motorized Utility Vehicle approvals.
  • Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding tasks.
  • Maintain volunteer employee processes and follow-up tasks.
  • Assist with planning departmental functions.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Eligible for student employment (preference give to FWS)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent customer service skills and professional work habits.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Dependable and responsible.
  • Organized and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Some office experience is preferred.

Expectations:
  • $13 per hour
  • 10 - 15 hours per week between the hours of 8am - 5pm Monday - Friday (hours can be adjusted to fit school schedule, as needed)
  • Position beginning around 9/1/2026 with the end date of 5/23/27
  • Dress Code: Business casual (Khakis, polos, etc.)

Physical Demands
  • This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
