Position purpose
The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for assisting staff with answering telephone calls, daily maintenance, miscellaneous administrative duties, data entry and filing.
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples
  • Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting
  • Prepare reagents for tissue processing and routine slide staining, under direct supervision
  • Perform routine H&E staining either manually or automated
  • Distributing slides to pathologists
  • File blocks and slides
  • Filing paperwork
  • Discarding specimen containers
  • Specimen pickup(s) as needed
  • Perform cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automated
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment
  • Responsible for all assigned clerical duties associated with the Pathology laboratory
  • Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met
  • Ensure compliance with all local, federal, CLIA and CAP regulations
  • Maintain a clean and well-organized work area
  • Other duties, as assigned

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Associate of Science preferred

Experience: One (1) year experience in laboratory setting preferred.

Frequent exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, moving/mechanical parts, sharp objects, blood or body fluids, communicable diseases, computer monitors, repetitive motions. Local travel in the region may be required to another location as needed.
