The W Assisted Living Communities is seeking an experienced, hands-on Director of Housekeeping to lead our Housekeeping, Porter, and Laundry teams. This is a working director role for someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our residents and staff.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Staff Supervision & Leadership

  • Supervise Housekeepers, Porters, and Laundry Aides, including coaching, mentoring, training, and disciplinary action as needed

  • Conduct regular inspections of housekeeping, porter, and laundry work to ensure quality standards are consistently met and exceeded

  • Ensure carts are maintained properly and kept at the door being serviced at all times, with all carts returned to the basement by 4:00 PM daily

  • Coordinate the selection, ordering, and inventory control of housekeeping, laundry, and porter supplies

Cleanliness & Facility Standards

  • Ensure all areas of the facility, including resident rooms, common areas, bathrooms, and administrative offices, are cleaned to the highest standards

  • Oversee deep-cleaning and sanitation routines, particularly in high-risk areas, to meet infection control standards

  • Ensure floors, fixtures, and furniture are maintained in clean, hazard-free, and orderly condition daily

  • Monitor that bed linens are changed on their assigned day

Safety, Maintenance & Reporting

  • Identify and report broken furniture, fixtures, plumbing issues, and malfunctioning smoke detectors to maintenance immediately

  • Ensure proper, safe handling of cleaning supplies and chemicals in compliance with OSHA standards

  • Monitor and enforce infection control practices in alignment with NYS DOH regulations and facility policy

Resident Safety & Incident Reporting

  • Ensure housekeepers check all resident rooms daily and immediately report any concerns, including missing or unresponsive residents

  • Document and communicate incidents involving residents found smoking, in coordination with the resident's Case Manager

  • Report any unsecured medication found in a resident's room

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Two years of prior experience in building maintenance and repair

  • Two to three years of supervisory experience in housekeeping or a related field, preferably within healthcare or assisted living

  • Strong knowledge of cleaning methods, chemicals, safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and infection control protocols

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects and work across various environments

  • Compassionate, empathetic attitude toward residents while maintaining professionalism

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent heavy lifting up to fifty (50) pounds

  • Exposure to wet conditions, extreme temperatures, and cleaning chemicals (PPE provided)

  • Standing for extended periods, up to 100% of shift

  • Full-time position with flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
