Job Description:

The Mission System Specialist (Avionics Technician) will perform a variety of duties to provide technical support to the customer at a forward operating location.  Possesses in-depth knowledge and skill in the repair, maintenance, and Air Tractor 802U mission systems and electronic equipment.  Maintains, repairs, tests and/or calibrates various types of aircraft electronic equipment.  Applies technical knowledge of electronic principles and strong knowledge in troubleshooting techniques to determine mission equipment malfunctions and restore aircraft mission systems to full operational status.  Performs work in accordance with technical manuals, schematics, engineering drawings, and written/verbal instructions.


Essential Functions:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • Ability to meet worldwide immunization and deployment requirements and is eligible for access to required classified material.
  • Satellite system architectures, time division multiple access protocols, UHF radio frequency transponder and antenna theory.
  • UHF SATCOM system modulation/demodulation techniques, preamplifier, bandpass filter, and diplexer technology.
  • Communications Security (COMSEC) and Transmission Security (TRANSEC) methods and procedures.
  • Computer architectures; computer bus standards including VME, ISA, and PCI; serial and parallel computer interface standards including RS232, RS422, SCSI, IDE, PCMCIA, and IEEE802.3; Wide Area Network (WAN) interface standards and protocols.
  • Software configuration and administration techniques to include Windows 7, Windows server, and Cisco. Extensive knowledge of IBS specific GOTS application including TipoffNT, MarsNT, and GTIW. Electromagnetic interference testing.
  • Maintains hand and special tools in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Responsible for site, customer, and company tool accountability procedures to include reporting unserviceable tools and equipment to appropriate responsible party.
  • Willingness and ability to assist in training newly assigned personnel as required.
  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention and safety at all times.
  • Assists in aircraft movement flight line FOD prevention walks as required.
  • Complies with established policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Completes maintenance documentation using required forms.
  • Discusses discrepancies with aircrews to secure adequate troubleshooting information and flight data.
  • Willingness to assist in servicing aircraft with fuel, oil, grease, hydraulic fluid, air, oxygen, and nitrogen, as needed.
  • Performs aircraft corrosion control inspections/procedures to include wash, wipe down, polish and vacuum, as needed.
  • Must be able to work shifts as assigned and travel as part of a maintenance recovery team as required.  CONUS and OCONUS deployment may be required.
  • Willingness and ability to work in the established work/living environment, work shift schedules as assigned 7 days a week, 12 hours a day to support mission requirements.
  • Performs other assigned duties as required by Management.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • Ability to complete/pass a required DCMA physical exam and CRC course prior to OCONUS deployment.
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Valid State Driver's License


Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance is highly preferred
  • Experience in directly related operations and maintenance of ISR systems operations and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the DIA/DOD rules and regulations for systems security and hardening concepts such as DCID 6/3 is desired.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid US Passport
