Position Overview
Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center
We are seeking to hire a group of board-certified/board-eligible OB/GYNs to provide off-site gynecology call coverage supporting inpatient and surgical gynecology needs.
This role is designed as a second-line escalation and surgical support function, partnering closely with the on-site laborist and CNM teams, who manage initial patient evaluation and triage. Outpatient follow-up is handled by community GYN physicians.
The physicians will be available within a 30-minute call radius to provide timely, high-quality surgical and inpatient gynecologic care when escalation is required.
Core Responsibilities
On-Call Gynecology Coverage
• Provide off-site call coverage for:
o Inpatient gynecology consults
o Escalated cases from on-site laborists/CNMs
o Urgent and emergent surgical gynecology needs with post-op management
o Daily Post-Op/Inpatient rounding and discharge
• Maintain ≤30-minute response time from notification to hospital arrival
Surgical Care
• Perform urgent/emergent GYN procedures including:
o Dilation & curettage (D&C)
o Laparoscopy (ectopic pregnancy, ovarian torsion, cystectomy)
o Management of gynecologic hemorrhage
o Hysterectomy
• Work with anesthesia, OR teams, and nursing staff to ensure efficient case flow
Laborist & CNM Support
• Serve as backup GYN surgeon for:
o OB hospitalist (laborist) team
o Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs)
• Respond to cases requiring surgical intervention or higher-acuity management beyond scope of on-site team
• Assist with cesarean hysterectomy
Care Coordination
• Communicate with:
o Patient's primary OBGYN (when applicable)
o Hospital care teams
• Ensure appropriate handoff and post-operative care planning
Schedule & Coverage Model
• Shift-based call coverage (12- or 24-hour blocks)
• Off-site call with required 30-minute response time
• Flexible scheduling (weekday, weekend, and/or nights)
• No routine clinic responsibilities
• Opportunity to work with OBGYN residents
Compensation Structure
Shift-Based
• Flat rate per call shift
• Rate negotiable and open to keeping your own billing
• Malpractice is included (claims-made) and we will cover the tail
Qualifications
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics & Gynecology
• Active or eligible for Nevada medical license
• Demonstrated competency in emergent gynecologic surgery
• Ability to work independently in a hospital-based setting
• Strong collaboration with laborist and midwifery teams
Preferred Experience
• Prior hospital-based or laborist experience
• Experience managing escalated surgical GYN cases
• Comfort with rapid operative decision-making
