What jobs pay 10,000 a month without a degree?

In operations and maintenance (O&M), high-paying roles such as senior technicians, plant managers, or specialized engineers can earn around $10,000 per month, especially with extensive experience, technical skills, and certifications. These positions often require hands-on skills, problem-solving abilities, and knowledge of industry-specific tools and systems, but may not always require a formal degree.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as an O&M Technician, you need strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, technical knowledge of facility systems, and typically a relevant technical diploma or certification. Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), PLCs, and safety regulations is often required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication are essential soft skills for success in this role. These skills ensure the efficient, safe, and reliable operation and maintenance of critical equipment and infrastructure.

How much does an O&M make?

An O&M (Operations and Maintenance) technician typically earns between $40,000 and $70,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Skilled technicians with certifications and experience in equipment or systems management can earn higher salaries, especially in specialized or high-demand environments.

What profession makes $400,000 a year?

In the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) field, high-level roles such as senior managers, plant directors, or specialized engineers can earn around $400,000 annually, especially in large industrial, energy, or utility companies. These positions typically require extensive experience, advanced certifications, and expertise in managing complex systems or infrastructure.

What are O&M jobs?

O&M stands for Operations and Maintenance, which refers to roles responsible for ensuring that equipment, facilities, or systems are running efficiently, safely, and reliably. O&M professionals typically handle routine inspections, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for machinery or infrastructure in industries such as energy, manufacturing, and utilities. Their work is vital for minimizing downtime, optimizing performance, and extending the lifespan of assets. These roles often require technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and adherence to safety standards.

What is the difference between O&M vs Maintenance Technician?

AspectO&MMaintenance Technician
Required credentialsTypically includes certifications like OSHA, technical training, and sometimes specialized industry licensesOften requires technical certifications, HVAC, electrical, or mechanical licenses depending on specialization
Work environmentFieldwork at industrial sites, power plants, or facilities; involves inspections, troubleshooting, and operational tasksWorkshop or site-based; focuses on repairing, servicing, and maintaining equipment
Employer and industry usageCommon in energy, utilities, and industrial sectors for operational management rolesFound across manufacturing, facilities management, and industrial sectors for equipment upkeep

While both roles involve technical skills and work in industrial environments, O&M focuses on overseeing operations and ensuring systems run efficiently, whereas Maintenance Technicians primarily perform repairs and routine maintenance. Understanding these differences helps job seekers target the right roles based on their skills and career goals.

What are some typical challenges faced by O&M professionals when managing equipment and facility maintenance schedules?

O&M (Operations & Maintenance) professionals often face the challenge of balancing preventive maintenance with urgent repairs, all while minimizing downtime to keep operations running smoothly. Coordinating with multiple teams, adapting to unexpected equipment failures, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards are common hurdles. Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and adaptability are key to overcoming these challenges and ensuring facilities operate efficiently.

What jobs pay $2000 a day?

In operations and maintenance (O&M), high-paying roles such as senior project managers, specialized engineers, or consultants can earn around $2,000 per day, especially with extensive experience, certifications, and in industries like energy, infrastructure, or large-scale manufacturing. These positions often require advanced skills, leadership abilities, and sometimes long or irregular hours.

Opportunity

Adapture Renewables, Inc. is on a mission to be a leader in the new era of sustainable energy. Drawing upon an extensive knowledge base, we develop, engineer, build, own, finance and operate high quality utility-scale solar projects and battery energy storage projects. With an extensive growth journey in front of us we are looking for a talented O&M Manager to be part of our Asset Management team to help drive efforts towards delivery on our ambitious long-term goals set by our Board of Directors and owners KIRKBI - the private holding and investment company of the Kirk Kristiansen family founded to build a sustainable future for the LEGO brand through generations, including making the world a better place for the LEGO builders of tomorrow.

Overview

This position will work within our O&M team (part of our Asset Management team), which is responsible for the technical management of a growing portfolio (currently 330 MW) of utility-scale renewable energy projects located across the United States.  This team manages the operation of the portfolio, optimizing the fleet for maximum performance.  This position will report to the Director of O&M Services.

Core Responsibilities

  • Monitor utility-scale projects and issue work orders to O&M contractors to perform repairs as needed with efficiency and timeliness.

  • Coordinate procurement of parts and service to support maintenance efforts.
  • Manage spare parts inventories and make recommendations if deficiencies are identified.
  • Share lessons learned with Project Management & Engineering/EPC and Quality & Performance teams.
  • Walk through troubleshooting, step by step with technicians in field, and formulate solutions in real-time.
  • Support third parties (O&M providers, subcontractors, etc.) to troubleshoot larger/complex issues.
  • Track issues to resolution, updating work order ticketing to highlight fiscal impact.
  • Monitor production of sites: provide oversite and support for the monitoring team to ensure issues are correctly identified and work orders are properly queued for review.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of annual operating budgets.
  • Issue work orders to service providers, providing specific scope of work to be completed.
  • Create, update, and maintain scheduled technical operating reports and periodic performance assessments as requested by management.
  • Remote monitoring and troubleshooting support for tracker issues.
  • Identify and resolve sensor issues impacting performance data.
  • Manage contractors for:
    • Regular vegetation management
    • Special vegetation (habitat) requirements
    • ISO (CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, etc.) connectivity issues
    • Maintaining: fencing, gates, barbed wire, security, site access road issues, erosion, roads, neighbors, tree trimming, and other activities
  • Support the commissioning and onboarding of new projects.
  • Some travel periodically required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in solar required. Utility scale strongly preferred.
  • Solar installation/construction and O&M experience. Preferred experience in the following:
    • Troubleshooting and resolving issues with strings/modules, inverters, combiner boxes, feeder lines (direct burial or conduit), racking hardware, tracker motors, actuators, bearings, controllers, sensors, and basic DAS components.
  • This position requires good communication skills, a high level of organization, and being detail oriented. Must be able to work cross-functionally with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Must have basic computer skills, able to use MS Office software, manage department network directory/folders, use basic GUI applications and web-based software like PowerFactors, Radian Lens, and Salesforce.
  • For core O&M management job responsibilities, the candidate must be able to take initiative and work independently with limited guidance. Preference for a candidate with a strong desire to learn and grow.
  • Experience in the operation and maintenance of battery energy storage systems is a plus.

Benefits Package

  • 401(k) plan with company matching contribution
  • Competitive health, vision, and dental benefits
  • Attractive personal time off and company holiday package
  • Work-from-home policy
  • Salary commensurate with experience
