Reports to: School Nutrition SupervisorJob DescriptionThe School Nutrition Field Manager provides operational leadership and support across multiple school cafeteria sites, ensuring high-quality meal service and full compliance with federal, state, and district nutrition and food-safety standards. This role conducts regular site visits, evaluates program performance, and ensures adherence to HACCP procedures, temperature monitoring, allergen protocols, and all required sanitation guidelines.
The Field Manager oversees inventory management, including forecasting, ordering, receiving, storage, and usage of food and supplies to control costs and reduce waste. The position also provides coaching and corrective guidance to cafeteria managers and staff, ensuring consistent implementation of district policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
Frequent travel between school sites is required to resolve operational challenges, maintain program integrity, and support safe, efficient meal service for students.
Essential Responsibilities- Oversee and approve physical inventory submissions from School Nutrition Managers; assist with corrections as needed.
- Conduct routine site visits, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance with USDA school meal regulations, district policies, and all health, safety, and sanitation standards.
- Evaluate and coach cafeteria managers and staff to ensure consistent food preparation, portion control, meal presentation, and high-quality customer service.
- Review production and inventory reports to monitor food costs, ordering accuracy, storage practices, and waste reduction efforts.
- Assist in interviewing prospective cafeteria staff and provide hiring recommendations to the Supervisor of Child Nutrition Services.
- Coordinate the distribution of food, supplies, and equipment to ensure uninterrupted meal service across all school sites.
- Prepare timely reports on site performance, audit results, corrective actions, and productivity metrics to support compliance and continuous improvement.
- Support training initiatives for School Nutrition Managers and staff; assist with developing and delivering leadership and operational training programs.
- Provide daily operational support to School Nutrition Managers regarding communication, procedures, and problem-solving.
- Provide on-site support in kitchens and cafeterias as needed to maintain smooth operations.
- Serve as a substitute for Child Nutrition Managers when required.
- Assist with special events, functions, and district-wide nutrition initiatives.
- Help plan and facilitate manager meetings, workshops, and professional development sessions.
- Inspect food service operations regularly, including procedures, personnel performance, and equipment condition.
- Assist with securing approved substitute cafeteria workers when necessary.
- Demonstrate proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Windows, Word, and Excel.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with employees, administrators, students, and staff; manage frequent interruptions and deadlines
- Follow detailed written and oral instructions; and read and interpret recipes accurately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
