Position: Education Specialist

Program: Family Child Care Home Education Network Program (FCCHEN) (Monterey County)

Salary: $26.54 - $27.98 per hour

Status: Non-exempt (40 hours per week)

Reports To: Program Director and/or designee

GENERAL PURPOSE

To create program activities that address the developmental needs of children by providing appropriate learning experiences, goals, and objectives to all contractual commitments to the California Department of Education and Early Education Support Division.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Program Manager, Education Specialist must assist in the implementation of the FCCHEN Program and perform the following duties.

  • Monitors, Family Child Care Home environments to ensure compliance with California Department of Education, Early Education and Support Division, and Licensing Regulations.
  • Observe and assess children using Desire Result Developmental Profile.
  • Conduct Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale assessments.
  • Must develop and maintain accurate child and provider records as required by the contract.
  • Insures age-appropriate curricula activities are being implemented in the areas of cognitive, physical, social emotional growth of all children.
  • Conducts periodic on-site health and safety monitoring visits to each Family Child Care Home; includes visiting at opening and closing hours to insure compliance with sign in/out procedures and health and safety regulations.
  • Prepares reports to enhance the FCCHEN program and to determine the effectiveness of the program.
  • Conduct trainings for providers and parents. These training should inform providers and parents about children's growth and development.
  • Monitors the nutritional programs being administered at all Family Child Care Homes to ensure the program is nondiscriminatory and in compliance with the State of California Food and Nutrition Program.
  • Must interface with other childcare resources (Resources & Referral, Alternative Payment Programs, other Social Service agencies in the community) to acquire and exchange information.
  • Submits monthly status reports of all activities conducted during the month and monitoring reports, which include deficiencies found and action taken.
  • Travels to Family Child Care Homes in the outlying areas as assigned.
  • Attend meetings, conferences and workshops as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • An associate degree in Child Development or related, preferred.
  • Must possess a minimum of an Associate Teacher Permit from Commission of Teaching Credential.
  • Must have knowledge of FCCERS and DRDP.
  • Computer literate and data entry.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Early Childhood Education Experience.
  • Ability to drive and travel.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
