THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY
POSITION TITLE: Site Assistant
ASSIGNMENT: Site Assistant - Food & Nutrition Services
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Two (2) years documented experience in SBHC Food & Nutrition or four (4) years documented equivalent experience
  3. Knowledge of computer, cash register, and food processing equipment as related to departmental job functions
  4. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  5. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
  6. Ability to reach, stretch, bend, stoop or kneel to handle, lift or move objects from floor level to 6 feet above floor level
  7. Ability to walk or stand for periods of four (4) continuous hours
  8. Ability to work in under the following environmental conditions:
    • The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
    • The worker is subject to extreme cold. Temperatures are below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
    • The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures are above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
    • The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
    • The worker is subject to hazards. This includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, and exposure to high heat or chemicals.

PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Directly responsible to the Food & Nutrition Manager for satisfactory completion of all assigned duties (oral or written), performed to the established standard
  2. Responsible to the Food & Nutrition Manager for observance of sanitation and safety rules and regulations
  3. Assists with necessary food service operations during times of emergency
  4. Deals courteously with the public and maintains an effective working relationship with managers and other employees
  5. Maintains high standard of work habits, sanitation and safety
  6. Adheres strictly to the Handbook for School Food & Nutrition Personnel and all guidelines set forth by The School Board of Highlands County Board policy
  7. Prepares food and / or baked goods as directed by the Food & Nutrition Manager
  8. Strictly follows recipes and production planning sheets
  9. Obtains, weighs and measures products from storage areas in a timely manner to ensure present and future menus are prepared correctly
  10. Plans production with Food & Nutrition Manager to ensure food is prepared in a timely manner, avoiding excessive holding of food
  11. Direct and train general workers assigned by the Food & Nutrition Manager to assist in food preparation
  12. Packages and store food products in accordance with food safety standards and advises manager of amounts to be worked into future menus
  13. Monitors serving line to ensure enough food is available for service and replaces depleted food with fresh product
  14. Operates point of sale system
  15. Assists Food & Nutrition Manager with ordering and inventory of products and services utilized by the Food & Nutrition operation
  16. Assumes responsibility for the Food & Nutrition operation in the absence of the Food & Nutrition Manager or Assistant Manager
  17. Will take appropriate hours of annual continuing education/training as required by USDA Professional Standards or other such agencies.

Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process
