LOCATION: KONA COMMUNITY HOSPITAL | Behavioral Health
POSITION STATUS: 1.00 | Permanent
SALARY RANGE: BU29 | SR24
SALARY RATE: $131,316.00 (Annual Salary) based on the FTE
JOB DUTIES: The Registered Professional Nurse VI, Nurse Manager, has 24-hour responsibility and accountability for the management and operational activities of the Behavioral Health Unit. Primary responsibility is to plan, organize, and control the budget, material resources, capital resources as well as all clinical and non-clinical functions within the nursing unit; and assures the provision of a safe and therapeutic environment complete with medications, supplies and equipment necessary in the quality performance of patient care services. In addition, this position will determine staffing methodology, directs and coordinates the staff activities, monitors staff performance, assures competencies and provides for the educational needs of all staff members. The Nurse Manager is responsible for compliance in areas of policies, procedures, and standards by facilitation of Interdisciplinary Team Meetings and other processes to ensure appropriate coordination of care and discharge planning specific to psychiatric patients' needs. This position may be required to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
BASIC EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Graduated from an accredited school of nursing. While not required, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must have shown progressively responsible work experience of the kind and quality described below:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional nursing work experience in a psychiatric, acute in-patient setting where the employee independently provided nursing care to patients. Such experience must have been gained within the last two (2) years.
SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of professional nursing experience which included: (1) planning and directing the work of others; (2) assigning and reviewing their work; (3) advising them on difficult problem areas; (4) timing and scheduling their work; and (5) training and developing employees.
CERTIFICATION: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at the time of appointment.
LICENSE REQUIRED: Possession of a current license to practice as a professional nurse in the State of Hawaii.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of nursing theory and practice; nursing techniques and procedures; nursing literature and current trends and development in nursing. Knowledge of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO) requirements, and other federal, state, or private regulatory/review organizations with which the hospital interacts. Ability to apply nursing theory and practice in planning and giving nursing care, recognize, interpret and evaluate symptoms of patient's condition, and take appropriate action. Ability to plan and schedule the work of others and utilize the principles and practices of supervision. Positions should be able to initiate and maintain good working relationships with others.

If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals. The administrative review, formal complaint and/or appeals hearing will not necessarily postpone the recruitment process and/or rescind a selection. If you do not agree with the Administrative Review, you may file a Formal Compliant and then, if you are still not satisfied, you can appeal to the HHSC Merit Appeals Board.
