Job description


Position Overview
The Clinical Lab Equipment Manager oversees the Skills, Simulation, and Assessment Lab in support of undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, as well as the Master's Physician Assistant Program, by coordinating logistics to deliver interactive and engaging lab-based learning experiences. In this role, the Clinical Lab Equipment Manager provides comprehensive support for all instructional and simulation equipment, including inventory management, maintenance, repair coordination, and the preparation and setup of equipment and supplies. These efforts ensure safe, effective, and efficient learning environments for students and faculty across classrooms, skills labs, simulation spaces, and clinical practice areas. The Clinical Lab Equipment Manager collaborates closely with program directors, faculty, staff, and external vendors to support high-quality teaching and learning outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain clinical lab equipment valued in excess of $1 million. This includes, but not limited to, the in depth knowledge of all equipment, including simulation equipment, developing and maintaining professional relationships with key equipment vendors, and continual education on enhancements to said equipment.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all equipment and supplies for PA and Nursing clinical skills lab and simulation activities, including barcoding, tagging, and lifecycle tracking.
  • Manage lab sections with lab instructor to ensure all students complete and understand activities, and create adjustments as needed for time or comprehension.
  • Create videos for extra instruction and for reference
  • Manage lab finances by purchasing and coordinating the receipt, storage, organization, and rotation of consumable supplies, ensuring appropriate stock levels and timely ordering in collaboration with program directors and administrative staff.
  • Based upon needs of the various programs, investigate new equipment options by researching curricular needs and determine equipment needs. Work with Program Directors, Faculty, and the College Budget Director to select equipment and obtain appropriate funding and secure purchase and installation of new equipment.
  • Prepare, stage, and break down equipment, task trainers, manikins, and supplies for labs, simulations, and assessments based on faculty requests and course schedules to ensure proper use and care of the lab equipment and maintain the maximum use of equipment.
  • Coordinate routine maintenance, calibration, and repairs for manikins, simulators, audiovisual systems, and other instructional equipment by working with internal IT/AV teams and external vendors within budgetary parameters.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized lab and storage spaces, including adherence to infection prevention, sharps, chemical, and biomedical waste handling procedures consistent with college and university policies within budgetary parameters.
  • Develop and maintain equipment use, checkout, and return processes; track equipment loans to faculty, staff, and students and follow up on missing or damaged items.
  • Assist faculty and staff with basic operation and troubleshooting of simulation, skills lab, and AV equipment during instructional activities and examinations.
  • Maintain equipment documentation, including user manuals, maintenance logs, warranties, and service agreements, and ensure compliance with manufacturer recommendations.
  • Support onboarding and orientation of new faculty and staff to equipment use, storage procedures, and lab expectations as requested by the program directors.
  • Serve on college and university committees

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in healthcare or related field, or a Certified/Licensed Medical Professional preferred or and/or medical skills related experience desired.
  • Technical expertise in equipment management, healthcare support services, simulation/skills lab support, facilities support, or a related technical role preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Teams) and ability to learn inventory or asset management systems.
  • Ability to lift, move, and transport equipment and supplies, and to perform tasks requiring standing, bending, and reaching as part of daily work.
  • Strong organization, time management, and prioritization skills with attention to detail in a fast-paced academic environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of the campus community.

About the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences: The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences offers programs leading to Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Healthcare and Business, Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies. The addition of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing is a continuation of the expansion of healthcare programs in the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
