Summary
The clinical nurse manager, in collaboration with the Director, assists in managing the patient care unit for administrative and clinical aspects to include organizing, developing, directing and assuring the delivery of cost-effective, quality patient care. Directs and oversees the process which ensures that patient care is delivered in accordance with established hospital, State, Federal, Joint Commission and ANA policies, procedures, regulations, ethics, and standards. Provides education to staff based on theoretical and clinical expertise. This position will have twenty-four hour accountability to ensure clinical resource and continuity of patient care.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
1. Serves as a clinical resource and role model/mentor in the delivery of patient care.
2. Promotes the development of clinical and leadership skills of the assistant nurse managers and clinical personnel.
3. Participates in the performance Improvement process to improve patient outcomes.
4. Assists in management of the patient care unit as related to the administrative aspects or organizing, developing and directing.
5. Demonstrates working knowledge of resource consumption.
6. Maintains knowledge base related to customer service and customer satisfaction.
7. Provides in-services and staff development programs for patient care services staff.
8. Assumes responsibility for coordination of new employee orientation and provides unit specific orientation.
9. Represents the Unit Director and specific unit during committee participation as assigned.
10. Ensures compliance with all policies & procedures that pertain to HIPAA including the minimum necessary requirements for all position within span of control.
11. Performs and fulfills all HICS (hospital incident command system) responsibilities, assignments, tasks, and roles as directed and needed by the facility in times of emergency and/or disaster. Responsible for knowing the Hospital's emergency codes, including the purpose and appropriate action for each, and adheres to the Hospital policies and procedures for each emergency code.
EDUCATION:
Minimum: Bachelors Degree in Nursing, related field or equivalent competencies/job experience
Preferred: Masters Degree in Nursing, Education, Management or related field, or demonstrated equivalent competencies preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Two years experience in clinical related specialty; one year supervisory or management experience, working knowledge of Quality Improvement process and Joint Commission standards.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE/REGISTRATION:
Registered Nurse - licensed in the State of Florida. American Heart Association BLS Certification required. ACLS certification required for Critical Care Clinical Manger.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Managerial experience - able to relate to a large variety of individuals. National certification in area of specialty is strongly preferred.
