To thrive as a Nursing Aide, you need a solid understanding of basic patient care, assistance with daily living activities, and a high school diploma or equivalent, often complemented by a state-approved training program and certification (CNA). Familiarity with medical terminology, vital signs monitoring equipment, and electronic health record systems is typically required. Compassion, patience, and strong interpersonal skills help Nursing Aides build trust and effectively support patients and healthcare teams. Additionally, Nursing Aides may encounter emotionally difficult situations, especially when caring for seriously ill or elderly patients. Support from the healthcare team and ongoing training can help address these challenges and contribute to a rewarding experience in the role.

What are Nursing Aides?

Nursing aides, also known as nursing assistants or certified nursing assistants (CNAs), are healthcare professionals who provide basic care to patients in hospitals, nursing homes, and other medical facilities. They assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility. Nursing aides also help monitor patients' conditions, take vital signs, and report any changes to nurses and other medical staff. Their work is essential in ensuring patients' comfort and supporting the overall healthcare team.
