Job description

Introduction
Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) located near Oshkosh, Wisconsin , is looking to hire three (3) full-time Admissions Nurse Practitioners [Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers (APNPs)]. Two (2) of them will work primarily from 7:00pm to 7:00am. The third position will work from 7:00am to 7:00pm. You will be required to be on call to the nurses and nursing supervisors throughout your shift.
WMHI is a part of the Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary
As an Admissions Nurse Practitioner, you will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Evaluating new referrals and completing the medical clearance process for new admissions.
  • Completing histories and physical exams on new patient admissions.
  • Assisting the Medical Clinic in providing medical care as needed.
  • Being on call to the nurses and nursing supervisors outside of regular business hours. Calls include giving medical advice over the phone but also may involve seeing WMHI patients outside of normal business hours.
  • Referring a WMHI patient when they need to be admitted to another hospital and directing that they receive all appropriate medical care.

Salary Information
The starting pay is up to $72.53 per hour (approximately $150,800 per year),plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. The position is classified as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber and is in pay schedule and range is 11/11.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to these positions will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
A TB screen will be required prior to start, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.
Appointees must obtain a DEA number within 3 months of hire. Please note individuals who are required to obtain a registration in order to carry out duties in a state or federal agency are exempt from registration fees.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • License or eligible for license as an APNP specializing as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) in the State of Wisconsin. Eligible includes currently registered as an APNP in another state and are eligible to obtain licensure in WI OR you are within 3 months of graduation from a professional APNP program specializing as a FNP. License must be obtained by time of hire.
  • Experience working in emergency medicine, family medicine or urgent care.
  • Experience working with electronic health record (EHR) software (e.g., Cerner, Epic, etc.) for documentation and patient care.
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience completing admission physicals.
  • Experience working with patients with mental health or substance use disorders.
