Successful Head Coaches should display strong communication, motivational and organizational skills. Team-building abilities and working in a collaborative environment are essential for a Head Coach. They should also be able to draw assistant coaches together to achieve the same goal. The head coach is in charge of their entire program, and needs to oversee all assistant coaches, and athletes that are part of that program.
Develop Student Athletes:
The Head Coach must be committed to the personal development of each player in their program. This includes teaching them fundamental skills that will help them be successful. A Head Coach must also help students develop a competitive nature, teach them about ethical behavior and good sportsmanship, and assist in the development of leadership skills.
Assists in formulating practice and facility schedules for the activity with the AD.
  • Assists in arrangements for all out-of-town lodging needs for the activity.

  • Assists in all eligibility requirements for the activity.

  • Assists in budget preparation for the activity.

  • Assists in preparing professional development opportunities for the activity.

Consent to Treat Forms:
Each Head Coach is responsible for checking out a Consent to Treat binder from the office. Coaches need to take this with them on all away games. Medical Professionals will not touch your athletes without this.
  • The coach in charge of the group is responsible to get a list of all passengers to the driver in case of an emergency.

Administration of Medication:
Coaches need to sign an Administration of Medication sheet before they are allowed to hand out any medication. This form needs to be handed in to the Nurse.
  1. Coaches need to refer to the Consent to Treat binder to confirm students are able to receive medication.

Media / Community Organizations-
Head Coaches are responsible for providing stats and game analysis to the Media. They also need to build a positive rapport with the booster club and parents. They also need to work with the community to promote the activity.
Locker Rooms-
Coaches need to monitor locker rooms. Locker rooms should be checked on a daily basis to make sure they are being taken care of and monitored for cleanliness. When traveling, be respectful of other schools and make sure the locker rooms are not left damaged or dirty.
Supervision:
  1. Each coach is responsible for the action of members of his/her squad from the time they report to the gym for practice until they leave the building after practice.

  1. It is the coaches' responsibility to be present at the time the athletes are to report for practice, games, meets, home or away, and stay until the last athlete has left.

Facilities:
The coach shall see that the lights are turned off, the doors are locked, and equipment is put away. Coaches are also responsible for putting away practice or game equipment so the space can be used by others.
Time sheets:
Each coach (Head and Assistant) that is not a full time employee of the district is responsible to hand in a timesheet for the season to the Athletic Director. This time sheet will then be sent into the district office.
Bus:
  1. The Coaches are responsible for student behavior while on the bus. The bus Driver needs to be able to focus on driving.
  2. Coaches should spread out on the bus while traveling to make sure they are monitoring the students on the bus.

Inventory, Equipment and Uniforms:
1. Uniforms and equipment are to be checked out to each participant.
2. Coaches need to give care and cleaning instructions to each participant.
3. All items inventoried and on file will be the responsibility of the Head Coach.
4. An inventory will be turned into the Athletic Director at the end of the season.
