Position: Senior Electrical Engineer – Nuclear

Location: 7388 North State Hwy 95 Columbia, AL 36319

Duration: 8 Months
Client:       Southern Nuclear


Position Overview

The Senior Electrical Engineer – Nuclear is responsible for leading and overseeing electrical power system design activities for nuclear power plant projects. This role requires deep technical expertise in power plant electrical systems, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance standards.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership capability, extensive nuclear design experience, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects with minimal supervision.


Key Responsibilities

Electrical System Design & Engineering

  • Assist in preparing and overseeing electrical power system design
  • Develop and review:
    • Scope documents
    • Schedules and budgets
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Elementary and wiring diagrams
    • Layout and circuitry designs
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and QA requirements
  • Support checkout and startup of electrical systems as needed

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure designs comply with:
    • Federal regulations
    • State and local codes
    • Nuclear QA standards
  • Maintain thorough understanding of nuclear plant regulatory environments

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical direction to engineers, designers, and drafters
  • Review design details, drawings, and calculations
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure project effectiveness
  • Build strong working relationships with plant staff, engineering teams, and vendors

Project Coordination

  • Schedule and coordinate projects to meet cost and timeline objectives
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Make independent engineering decisions with limited supervision
  • Support large nuclear plant design projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Accredited)
  • 10+ years of related electrical engineering experience
  • Strong experience in:
    • Power plant electrical system design
    • Nuclear facility projects
    • QA and regulatory compliance
  • Proven ability to lead design efforts on large-scale projects
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using AutoCAD and CAD Overlay
  • Knowledge of industry design process (IP-ENG001)
  • Experience handling nuclear plant design with limited oversight
  • Demonstrated leadership providing technical oversight on design teams
