Nuclear electricians perform routine maintenance and repairs on control and electrical systems at a nuclear power plant. These systems can include communication devices, simple lighting fixtures, and complicated machinery. In this role, you examine blueprints to understand the specifications of the project, install a new system or modify an established system, and then test the equipment to ensure it operates at optimal capacity and meets the needs of your employer. When something goes wrong, you troubleshoot and repair these issues to help the system run smoothly again. While reviewing the equipment, you document the procedures performed and check to make sure the facility adheres to industry codes and safety standards.
