POSITION OVERVIEW

STi is seeking an Engineering Technician V to provide senior hands-on technical support for submarine PSSE maintenance, certification, routine operational support, and non-ordnance handling evolutions supporting MARMC Code 271.

This role supports preventive and corrective maintenance, certification, operational procedures, waterfront support, handling equipment readiness, shipping/receiving evolutions, and PSSE condition tracking for submarine support equipment located primarily in Norfolk, VA and Groton, CT. The Engineering Technician V is expected to bring strong hands-on mechanical, electrical, electronic, and PSSE technical experience, along with the maturity to serve as a senior technician during waterfront and non-ordnance handling operations.

The ideal candidate has direct Navy submarine, shipyard, weapons handling support, ordnance/non-ordnance support equipment, weight handling equipment, or PSSE maintenance experience.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include:

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and certification support for submarine PSSE equipment, Missile Tube Loading/Handling Maintenance Platforms, weapon cradles, ballast cans, VLS/VPT platforms, munitions trailers, handling slings, beams, support gear, and related equipment.

• Conduct maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, operational testing, and documentation in accordance with technical manuals, PMS schedules, drawings, TLMDs, MRCs, and approved procedures.

• Support maintenance and operational procedures for AURVS, AURES, Mk 60 AURS, AURBb, ballast cans, TOTEMS, MK-48 fitment shapes, TOMFISH, TMDs, AERO 51 class munitions trailers, MK-30/MK-34/CNU 308/Mk 793 containers, and related PSSE/non-ordnance support equipment.

• Support blasting, painting, structural repair, corrosion repair, hardware replacement, grating repair, grab rail repair, support leg repair, bushing replacement, and other approved maintenance actions on Missile Tube Loading/Handling Maintenance Platforms.

• Prepare condition report inputs identifying required repair or replacement actions before corrective maintenance is performed.

• Support depot-level maintenance when assigned and approved by Government stakeholders.

• Maintain certification status by performing required maintenance and minor repairs and documenting all work performed.

• Maintain HAZMAT lockers and support safe handling/storage of materials required for PSSE maintenance.

• Maintain or update databases reflecting PSSE location, maintenance status, condition code, and related equipment status information.

• Provide waterfront and pier-side technical support during delivery, loading/off-loading, storage, handling, canning, un-canning, movement, transportation, and shipping/receiving of PSSE equipment and inert components.

• Verify handling equipment, lifting equipment, vehicles, forklifts, bomb carts, and associated support equipment have proper maintenance and current certification before handling evolutions.

• Support non-ordnance handling coordination among MARMC, CSS-6/8, Naval Munitions Command, NSSF New London, and other stakeholders.

• Attend pier de-confliction meetings and support preparation of weekly handling schedules and equipment requests.

• Serve as part of qualified non-ordnance handling teams supporting submarines berthed at Naval Station Norfolk and other approved locations.

• Assist with movement and transportation of hull-owned equipment within authorized distance limitations.

• Work safely in shipboard, waterfront, industrial, maintenance, and confined-space environments in accordance with customer, OSHA, PPE, and local activity requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

U.S. Citizenship required. Active Secret clearance required.

• Minimum 8 years of full-time hands-on experience in the design, installation, test, and repair of mechanical, electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems/equipment.

• Minimum 6 years of full-time hands-on technical experience within the last 10 years in the operation, maintenance, installation, test, and/or repair of PSSE incorporated in Submarine PSSE Non-Ordnance Handling systems.

• Hands-on experience performing maintenance, inspection, test, repair, documentation, or certification support using technical manuals, drawings, PMS, MRCs, TLMDs, or similar maintenance controls.

• Ability to support waterfront, shipboard, industrial, maintenance, and non-ordnance handling operations.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a technical team and coordinate with Government, fleet, shipyard, squadron, and contractor personnel.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to document maintenance, equipment status, condition codes, and corrective actions accurately.

• Ability to work aboard U.S. Navy ships and in shipyard/waterfront environments.

• Ability to walk, climb ladders/stairs, carry tools/materials, navigate confined or crowded shipboard spaces, and work in varying environmental conditions.

• Ability to obtain and maintain required local activity training, OSHA/safety training, CPR certification, PPE compliance, and customer-required onboarding credentials.

• Ability to travel between work sites as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience supporting MARMC, RMC, NAVSEA, Navy shipyards, submarine squadrons, NSSF New London, Naval Station Norfolk, Groton, or submarine maintenance activities.

• Direct experience with submarine PSSE, non-ordnance handling equipment, VLS/VPT platforms, Missile Tube Loading/Handling Maintenance Platforms, ballast cans, AUR/AURB/AURVS/AURES, TOTEMS, TMDs, weapon cradles, munitions trailers, slings, beams, or weight handling equipment.

• Experience supporting Navy waterfront handling evolutions, pier services, shipboard on-load/off-load operations, canning/uncanning, stenciling, shipping/receiving, or transportation support.

• Experience verifying maintenance and certification status of handling equipment, lifting equipment, forklifts, bomb carts, vehicles, or related support equipment.

• Familiarity with HAZMAT locker management, OSHA shipyard requirements, PPE, confined-space precautions, or shipboard industrial safety requirements.

• Experience maintaining equipment status databases, condition code records, inventory records, or certification documentation.

• Prior senior technician, work lead, shop lead, team lead, or hands-on field lead experience.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Primary place of performance is MARMC / Naval Station Norfolk, Norfolk, VA.

• Work may include Norfolk, VA; Groton, CT; Navy shipyards; submarines; piers; waterfront areas; U.S. Naval facilities; contractor facilities; and approved travel locations.

• Work requires use of required PPE and compliance with shipboard, industrial, OSHA, and local safety requirements.

• Some work may require confined-space, aloft, waterfront, shipboard, or industrial maintenance environment access.
