Basic Job Functions:

The Control Room – Lead I plays a key role in assisting the Control Room – Supervisor by pursuing maximum possible revenue deliverables, identifying, and initiating appropriate response plans for alarm conditions that may place safety or production at risk, and implementing all applicable regulatory and contractual obligations as they apply to real-time operations, fleet wide. The Control Room – Lead I is responsible for coordinating day to day operations activities for a diverse portfolio of generating facilities under the jurisdiction of many balancing authorities, transmission operators, and scheduling entities. The position also provides critical support to The Control Room – Supervisor, assisting with the development of needed reporting tools, Operations Procedures, Training Materials, and executing Testing and Drilling Programs.

  • Performs all responsibilities of a Control Room – Operator IV.
  • Fill in for a Control Room – Operator IV as necessary.
  • Expert at navigating all NS GOP O&M Contracts, PPAs, and Interconnection Agreements.
  • Quickly recognizes situations that may cause conflicts to arise related to the operating contracts, and reliably arrives at solid business decisions that prioritize value while minimizing regulatory risk.
  • Proficient with all external notification and scheduling mechanisms.
  • Technical expert with all powerplant operations equipment; assists the Operation Supervisor in developing training material for the Operator’s Continual Training Program.
  • Expert at determining regulatory notification requirements and navigating library of operating agreements, business practice manuals, interconnection handbooks, tariffs, and NERC Standards.
  • Develop reports and perform detailed data analysis tasks when needed for contractual purposes.
  • Proficiently access Historical Data systems when operator tools do not provide needed data.
  • Control Room – Lead I response during equipment or execution failure events, quickly identifying the best coordinated response effort, and drives support groups to resolution through multiple parallel paths when warranted.
  • Provides high-value-on-the-job training to junior operators.

Experience:

One of the following:

  • 3 – 4 years as a Control Room – Operator (I, II, III, and/or IV)
  • 7 – 8 years Power Plant Operations, High Voltage Experience is a plus
  • Control Room – Lead I Quals achieved.
  • Able to demonstrate proficient technical knowledge of all power plant systems (Electrical, SCADA, safety, etc.)
  • Experience making high-value business decisions in complicated technical environments at scale.
