Northern Nevada State Veterans Home is looking for a Volunteer Services Coordinator to lead our volunteer program and support life enrichment activities throughout our senior living community. What You’ll Do (AKA: Your Superpowers)
Build an Amazing Volunteer Program:
Recruit, screen, onboard, train, schedule, and supervise community volunteers.
Maintain accurate volunteer applications, background checks, TB screenings, hours, schedules, and other compliance records.
Create and distribute monthly volunteer schedules and updates to the community team.
Recognize volunteer contributions through appreciation efforts and the annual volunteer recognition event.
Promote volunteer opportunities through outreach, marketing, and communication with residents, families, guests, staff, and community supporters.
Create Meaningful Resident Experiences:
Partner with the Life Enrichment Director to plan, prepare, and facilitate daily, weekly, and monthly activities.
Lead small-group programs and provide one-on-one engagement with residents as needed.
Help transport residents to and from activities and events while supporting their safety and comfort.
Assist with activity calendars, event setup and cleanup, seasonal decorations, entertainment, and special programs.
Oversee volunteer-supported services such as the barber shop, coffee shop, Silver State Store, and community newsletter.
Connect the Community:
Serve as the coordinator for community special events and collaborate with Life Enrichment, Dietary, Housekeeping, Maintenance, and other departments.
Build positive relationships with social, civic, corporate, veterans, and local organizations to grow the volunteer program.
Represent the community at onsite and offsite public events and share information about volunteer opportunities.
Communicate resident and community needs to volunteers and interested supporters.
Treat residents, families, volunteers, and coworkers with professionalism, kindness, dignity, and respect.
What You Bring to the Table (Besides a Heart for Service)
✔ Experience & Education:
Associate or bachelor’s degree in a healthcare- or recreation-related field.
Experience in a social or recreational program within the last five years, including one year of full-time experience in a patient activities program in a healthcare setting; or other qualifying experience listed in the full job description.
Knowledge of community resources, healthcare agencies, and laws and regulations related to long-term care.
Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, social awareness, and computer skills.
✔ Certifications & Requirements:
Valid driver’s license in the state of the community.
Preferred credentials include CTRS, ADC, AAC, ACC, Occupational Therapist, or Occupational Therapist Assistant.
Flexible availability, which may include nights, weekends, holidays, extended hours, and on-call support.
✔ Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, stoop, pull, push, reach, and perform multiple tasks throughout the workday.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and assist with resident transportation and event setup as needed.
Ability to adapt to changing schedules and work both independently and as part of a team.
