Half (.5) Graduate Assistant - Political Science BA and MPA Programs
Position Description
The Half Graduate Assistant (.5 GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer.
Overview
The Department of Political Science invites applications for a Half (.5) Graduate Assistantship shared between the Democratic Governance and Leadership Program (DGLP) and the MPA programs. This position offers hands-on experience in applied public policy research, program development, and regional engagement. The Half (.5) Graduate Assistant will help launch a new Undergraduate Policy Lab, assist with programing, regional outreach and marketing eff orts, while also having the chance to help with academic research.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduate students interested in public administration, policy analysis, nonprofit leadership, governance, or higher education administration.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and launching the Undergraduate Policy Lab by conducting research on peer institutions and best practices, including helping design student training materials in policy analysis and research methods
- Support faculty research (survey design, focus groups, data analysis, literature reviews)
- This includes research on public views of governance, laws, and policy (Dr. Navarre) and sustainability and multilevel governance (Dr. Kim)
- Assist with DGLP programming (guest speakers, faculty panels, assessment)
- Support regional outreach eff orts in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island
- Assist with recruitment and marketing eff orts for MPA, and Policy Lab initiatives
Preferred Qualifications
Qualifications
- Enrollment in the MPA program or related graduate program
- Strong writing and research skills
- Interest in public policy, governance, or community engagement
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience with research methods or data analysis preferred
