RANGE OPERATIONS SPECIALIST III USATR, TA B-88 Eglin AFB Open Position Request Number: R-49-26 CLASSIFICATION: Range Operations Specialist III ; CBA Rate $24.45/HR GRADE: Non-Exempt; Regular Full-time LOCATION: Range Operations Specialist III, Eglin AFB, FL POSTING DATE: Internal Applicants (04/22/2026) / External Applicants (04/28/2026) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Range Operations Specialist III performs duties associated with Range Operations at the United States Army Training Ranges (USATR). May perform duties independently or by taking directions from senior level specialists or a site supervisor. This position provides support for testing, range mission requirements/operations, and other types of activities located on the USATRs located at B88, C52 and C53A. This individual performs complex routine or repetitive tasks associated with Army Range Control operations. Assignments may be checked during performance or upon completion by senior level specialists or site supervisor. Performs duties such as assembling or installing apparatuses for range operations, performing routine inspections, operating remote targets, communicating with range users, aircraft, or those occupying the range for pre mission during, and post mission activities. May support other sites and areas of the O&M Contract as needed. GENERAL DUTIES: * Responsible for the NET Control radio network for all live and non-fire facilities. * Using knowledge of safety procedures, ammunition, or reported danger conditions (hazard duty areas, high fire danger conditions) refuses or grants permission for unit personnel to go downrange or leave the range. * Maintains information on range, terrain and ammunition utilization. * Maintains a daily journal of pertinent information transmitted and received such as incidents and accidents, ammunition expended, personnel trained, range and airspace violations, etc. * Responsible for safe and coordinated use of the U.S. Army Training Ranges on EAFB. * Using the daily range schedule, reviews, monitors and inspects access to ranges, impact areas, impact area gates, facilities, maneuver land, and live fire through patrol and on-site inspection of ranges, firing points, and units and activities. * Responds to emergencies and ensures proper notification and coordination of all agencies concerned. * Reviews and identifies scheduling issues, analyzes hazards, develops and presents for review situations requiring exceptions to policy, provides data and reports to investigators on live fire and other training incidents, to include reports of unauthorized occupation or use of the complex. * Acts independently and take actions to resolve on-site safety, environmental, and regulatory violations with sound judgment to the extent of terminating training when approved by higher authority. * Will be required to train on information systems and range procedures related to this position to include RFMSS and CSE Scheduling programs, IWDS weather monitoring software and others as required. * Performs range related labor as required. * May perform functions in the following capacities: Fire Desk operator for USATR Complex. Uses RFMSS to control range occupation and hot times; relays information to using units. Coordinates with Range Inspectors. Uses Radio and telephone systems to communicate with range personnel. Facilitates MEDEVAC operations and coordinates with other agencies in an emergency. Keeps daily log of all range activity and reports issues to Shift Lead. 2. Range Inspector on B88/C52 Ranges. Conducts daily inspection of range complex for cleanliness, serviceability and safety of the range complex. Checks units onto ranges. Coordinates with customer and signs over equipment to conduct training. Inspects range for cleanliness and serviceability prior to clearing unit from the range. May be required to open or close gates based on the training requirements. Job Requirements OTHER DUTIES: Will perform general housekeeping, facility inspections, vehicle upkeep and inspections, and other job related tasks. May be required to handle hazardous material/hazardous waste and other duties as assigned such as site safety rep. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school graduate or equivalent (GED) and a graduate of a military service school plus 4 years of related experience is required. 6 years experience in working directly in the training range environment may be substituted for education requirements. Incumbent must have the following basic understanding of military weapons systems and tactics to include small arms, machine guns, rockets and missiles and must be familiar with military range operations, regulations and procedures. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Supports E-OMS operational objectives; observes company Quality, Safety, Environmental, Security and Administrative policies; supports Process Improvement. Candidates must be able to pass physical and eye exam related to the job functions. Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver's license. May be required to complete on the job training and certification requirements for Automated Target Systems (ATS) operations. May be required to work overtime, shift-work, weekends, and holidays to support missions. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work may be performed at various heights above ground level. May perform duties both inside and outside and be subjected to a variety of environmental conditions typical to the work area PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, and move heavy items. Must be able to lift 50lbs and negotiate stairways without difficulty.
