Job description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

As a Sr. App Integration Engineer you will be responsible for designing and implementing asynchronous and synchronous patterns, developing integrations levering AWS and a number of other responsibilities on our fast parsed Enterprise Systems team. This role will be located in Palo Alto, CA and report to our Sr. Manager, Integration Engineering.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement asynchronous and synchronous patterns including Request/Response, Pub/Sub, and Event Streaming utilizing AWS native architecture.
  • Develop integrations leveraging AWS services, Kafka, and iPaaS platforms (e.g., Dell Boomi, Workato).
  • Architect decoupled, event-driven systems designed to mitigate common distributed system challenges, such as network latency and eventual consistency.
  • Rapidly acquire and apply expertise in emerging Generative AI technologies, transitioning from traditional middleware to AI-driven integration patterns
  • .Standardize integration templates and reusable services to ensure scalability and industry alignment.
  • Empower "citizen integrators" by providing self-service frameworks, effectively scaling integration capabilities across the organization.
  • Collaborate with business and IT leadership to define requirements and deliver technical solutions with a "product-first" mindset.
  • Champion architectural excellence by providing expert feedback on corporate strategies and standards within the broader technical community.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in complex integration projects involving both SaaS and on-premise applications.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience specifically focused on AWS services (e.g., S3, Lambda, Glue, EKS, API Gateway)
  • Expertise in at least one major middleware platform, such as Boomi, MuleSoft, or Workato.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages like Java, Python, or Node.js.
  • Solid understanding of Microservices, API design, ETL processes, and Web Services.
  • Deep knowledge of industry-standard protocols, including REST, SFTP, HTTPS, and SMTP.
  • Hands-on experience implementing integrationauthentication mechanisms such as OAuth, SAML, and Single Sign-On (SSO).
  • Preferred knowledge of implementing Amazon Bedrock Agents or framework-agnostic platforms like Bedrock AgentCore; familiarity with open-source frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, or LlamaIndex is a major plus.
  • Experience using Airflow or AWS Step Functions to orchestrate multi-step agent workflows, handle retries, and manage human-in-the-loop approvals.
  • Experience integrating SaaS applications with SAP HANA is highly desirable.
  • End-to-end B2B integration experience (EDI, Punch-out/Punch-in); familiarity with gRPC, AS2, and WebSockets is a distinct advantage.
  • Proven track record using tools like AWS Lambda and Apache Airflow for data pipeline and workflow orchestration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Deep proficiency in GitLab Version Control and branching strategies (e.g., GitLab Flow, Trunk-based development) within highly controlled, compliant environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, Terragrunt, or CloudFormation to automate deployment pipelines.
  • An innovative, out-of-the-box thinker with strong organizational skills and a "product mindset" toward integration.
