What is a Non Union Agency RN?

A Non Union Agency RN is a Registered Nurse who works for a staffing or employment agency that does not have a labor union representing its nurses. These nurses are often hired to fill temporary or short-term positions in healthcare facilities, such as hospitals or clinics, where there may be staffing shortages. Unlike unionized nurses, Non Union Agency RNs negotiate their own contracts and terms of employment, and they may not have the same collective bargaining protections or benefits as unionized staff. This role offers flexibility and a variety of work environments but may come with less job security and fewer standardized benefits.

What are some common challenges faced by Non Union Agency RNs when adapting to different healthcare facilities?

Non Union Agency RNs often face the challenge of quickly adapting to new work environments, policies, and electronic health record systems at each assignment. They may also need to build rapport with new teams and navigate varying patient care protocols, which requires strong communication skills and flexibility. While this variety can be rewarding, it can also be demanding, so agency RNs benefit from being highly adaptable and proactive in seeking information and support during each placement.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Non Union Agency RN, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Non Union Agency RN, you need a valid RN license, strong clinical assessment abilities, and adaptability to various healthcare settings. Familiarity with multiple electronic health record (EHR) systems, medication administration protocols, and facility-specific procedures is commonly required. Excellent communication, flexibility, and time management are vital soft skills for quickly integrating into new teams and environments. These competencies enable agency RNs to deliver safe, quality care and seamlessly support diverse healthcare facilities with minimal orientation.

Job description

Med Surg Telemetry Registered Nurse

This position involves working on a 32-bed unit with a daily census of approximately 17.5 patients. Nurse to patient ratios are 5:1 in Med Surg, 1:1 to 1:3 in ICU, and 1:2 to 1:4 in Intermediate Care. Common patient diagnoses include COPD, pneumonia, AFib RVR, DKA, and CIWA. The role requires maintaining effective communication and collaboration within the healthcare team. Registered Nurses will be responsible for performing hourly rounding and bedside safety surveys. Skills in phlebotomy, IV starts, EKG interpretation, and telemetry monitoring are essential. RNs will be required to read their own cardiac strips. The charge nurse role does involve taking patient assignments. There are nurse aids scheduled for each shift to assist with patient care. Respiratory therapy equipment management is included, with coverage available for 22 hours per day, seven days a week. Shifts are scheduled from 1700 to 0530 or 0500 to 1730, including a 30-minute meal break. Flexibility for weekend and holiday shifts is required. Low census may result in shifts being adjusted or staff being utilized in different roles, such as assisting in emergency departments. The dress code consists of navy blue scrubs without hoodies. All staff are expected to complete an orientation specific to the unit.

We offer competitive benefits, including:

  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • Free and unlimited continuing education units (CEUs)
  • 24/7 dedicated Care Line and clinical liaison support
  • Personalized career consultant and "single point of contact" service

Cynet Health reserves the right to modify, amend, or terminate any benefit plans at any time in accordance with applicable laws.
