Job description

Recruiter - Nonprofit & Community Organizations
Northeast-Based | Remote (U.S.)
Commission-Based
Purple Unicorn Talent Solutions is seeking an experienced, relationship-driven Recruiter / Talent Partner to support and grow our work across the North American nonprofit and community-based sector.
This role is ideal for someone who understands how mission-driven organizations operate, is comfortable partnering with executive leadership and boards, and thrives in a highly relational, trust-based recruiting environment. You will play a key role in connecting exceptional talent with organizations doing meaningful, community-centered work.
About Purple Unicorn
Purple Unicorn is a boutique recruiting and HR consultancy partnering with mission-driven organizations nationwide. We support our clients through talent acquisition, HR advisory, and career coaching, with a strong emphasis on values alignment, culture fit, and long-term partnership.
Our clients include community centers, cultural institutions, congregational organizations, foundations, and other nonprofit entities deeply rooted in service, education, and community impact.
What You'll Do
  • Lead full-cycle recruiting for nonprofit and community-based organizations across North America
  • Partner closely with executive directors, CEOs, board members, and senior leadership teams
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on hiring strategy, market insights, and candidate alignment
  • Recruit for a wide range of roles, including:
    • Executive and senior leadership
    • Development and advancement
    • Finance, operations, and HR
    • Program, education, and community engagement
  • Proactively source candidates through networks, referrals, and relationship-based outreach
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with candidates and client organizations
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including new client introductions and expanded engagements
  • Represent Purple Unicorn's thoughtful, high-touch, values-driven approach in all interactions

Types of Organizations You'll Support
While Purple Unicorn is industry-agnostic, this role will focus heavily on mission-driven and community-centered nonprofits, such as:
  • Community centers and cultural institutions
  • Congregational and faith-affiliated organizations
  • Educational and youth-serving nonprofits
  • Human services and social impact organizations
  • Foundations and philanthropic entities

Candidates with experience recruiting for community-based organizations, cultural institutions, congregations, or regional nonprofit networks will feel particularly aligned with this work
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of recruiting experience, with a strong emphasis on nonprofit organizations
  • Demonstrated success working with values-driven, community-focused clients
  • Deep understanding of nonprofit leadership structures, boards, and stakeholder dynamics
  • Strong relationship-building skills and high emotional intelligence
  • Comfort operating as a strategic partner rather than a transactional recruiter
  • Existing nonprofit or community-based networks in the Northeast strongly preferred
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently and manage multiple searches
  • Excellent communication, organization, and follow-through

Compensation & Structure
This role is 100% commission-based and is best suited for a recruiter who values flexibility, autonomy, and uncapped earning potential.
Compensation is highly competitive and designed to reward success across multiple revenue streams, including:
  • Recruiting placements
  • Business development and new client relationships
  • Expanded and repeat client engagements

Recruiters will directly benefit from the value they create. Detailed commission structure and earning potential will be shared during the interview process.
Why Purple Unicorn
  • Work with organizations making a real impact in their communities
  • High autonomy and trust - outcomes matter more than hours logged
  • Collaborative, values-driven leadership team
  • Opportunity to help shape and grow a specialized nonprofit recruiting practice
  • Fully remote with flexibility (U.S.-based)
