They are responsible for maintaining hardware, software, networks, and data security, as well as implementing technology solutions that help the organization achieve its mission. These professionals may also provide training to staff, oversee digital fundraising tools, and ensure that the organization's technology strategy aligns with its goals. Their role is crucial in helping nonprofits operate efficiently and make the most of limited resources.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a non profit information technology professional?

To thrive as a Nonprofit IT professional, you need a solid background in computer science or information systems, with experience in managing networks, databases, and cybersecurity tailored to nonprofit needs. Title:                    IT Intern

Location:            50 East 168th Street, Bronx, NY 10452

Reports to:        Director of Information Technology

About Us:

The Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco) is a community development organization founded on the radically simple idea that all people deserve to live in healthy, vibrant communities.  We build award-winning, sustainable, affordable homes – but our work is not over when our buildings are complete.  WHEDco believes that to be successful, affordable housing must be anchored in strong communities of which residents can be proud. WHEDco’s mission is to create and bridge access in the South Bronx to resources that support thriving neighborhoods – from stable, affordable housing to high-quality early childhood and school-age youth education programs, comprehensive family and community services, business and entrepreneur assistance, and cultural programming. See www.whedco.org for more information.

Responsibilities:

We are seeking a tech-savvy and motivated college intern to support our nonprofit’s IT operations. The IT Intern will assist with computer upgrades, phone setup, and day-to-day technology troubleshooting. • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Interest in working with mission-driven organizations and supporting staff across departments.

This is a 3-month internship meeting on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

WHEDco is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive learning environment where interns and fellows can gain meaningful experience while contributing to projects that strengthen Bronx communities. The internship is intended to foster professional growth through mentorship, collaboration, and hands-on exposure to nonprofit community development.
